I'm currently looking for a beater/daily for summer, and the key right now is reliable and cheap. I know some of you know which motors specifically are the most reliable and stuff like that, so does anyone have any input or experience with cheap cars that are also really dependable? So far I've been hearing my best bets are an S-10 or an Escort.

90-96 escort GT Ford built sohc lx motors are alright... but i doubt u can find a good running one. GT has mazda bp very reliable easy to fix cheap parts
90-94 protege LX same motor in the Gt 1.8dohc easy to fix! Dx - really good sohc motor...very reliable

Ef Civic.. if u can find one that isnt ragged out...but i doubt u will for under a 1000$
90-98 toyota Corolla/Geo Prism - cheap as dirt and very reliable.

Look for a cb7 Accord, they're usually a lot cheaper than civics and extremely reliable. Maybe an old Camry?

Look for a low mileage domestic car. You can find Buicks under 50K miles for under $1K if you look around for a little while.
