does any one know how a miata(say a 95-99) responds to a turbo setup? i m looking to buy either a 89 240(their are alot for sale!) a mazda rx-7(cant find any-1989) or a miata(couple for around 3000) i will probably end up getting a 240, but would like a miata and was wondering if they do as good as a 240....
not best setups! i am going to spend 2000 on a car, then put 3500 into it(maybe not enough for turbo, but ill save up) also, how much woul it cost for a small turbo....i am only looking for something small...8lb.s at most

They handle pretty well to forced induction. I think you can get about 250 whp out of a stock block from what ive seen, and in a miata that weighs like nothing, thats one hell of a fast car.

thanks,would a 240 be better?
this dude had one at napa and he said he was making 320+ on the stock setup but i dnt know bout al that. also there is a black one at mainstream that supposed to be pretty quick, ive never road in it b4 but u can ask vteckidd about it. i drove a couple with just intka eand exhasut and they handle pretty good. the newer ones have more room than the old ones.

^yea, the one at mainstream had about 250 whp i believe, maybe a little more, he was able to keep up w/ a viper on the highway tho, of course, the next day the motor blew, but he drove the fuck out of that car so who knows. Thats why its now just sitting at the shop.

check out www.miata.net
as long as the motor has been maintained and taken care of, you can get 200-250 hp without modifying the internals of the motor all day long. of course, you want to make sure it is tuned properly.
i own one and i love it, although i've saved the FI for last.

250 whp in a Miata is still not keeping up with a fucking Viper on the highway.
Gearing and about 250 to 300 lbs more torque.
Had a friend with about 240 in his with a t3/t4 and it was NOWHERE near Viper level.

thats just what i heard, and the driver isnt the type that says a lot of BS. He said the guy in the viper was extremely surprised as was he. I kinda have a feeling he was putting down more than 250 at the time, hence why his motor blew the very next day, but i honestly dont know so im not goin to try to say for sure that its true or not. Just what i heard.

hell yea it was quick, had a t3 turbo that spooled up pretty quick, and yea, you can get em sideways no problem at all

About the one that kept up with the viper. I know he did and that is no BS. We built his car about a year ago. It was making 250whp on his street tune. He has the Link stand alone so with a few quick changes to the hand held controller and he is at 300whp. We have graphs that show he makes 298whp on a stock motor with 130k miles with only the 460cc injectors. We put 550cc in the day before the viper run so he may have turned it up even more.
Back to the miatas in general. First off they handle boost very very well. Stock they make about 105whp. You can put the jackson sc and make 150whp with stock ecu, stock inj, stock everything. This is enough power to have fun at drifting or autocross. You can also put the Flyin Miata turbo kit on and make 220whp with no internal mods. I have customers that have had the FM kit for years and years with no problems. Finally you can do a custom kit and make around 300whp with no internal mods, but must have a good tune and a well maintained motor.
The car we did that made 300 but just blew up was a custom kit. The car had a supercharger on it for about 5 years with no problems. Then we turboed it a year ago and has had no problems until now. This car has be used and abused its whole life. So it lasted about 70k miles on boost. Not bad for stock motor. Hell the car even has the stock fuel pump from 94 in it. Also, the car has pasted emission twice with the 300whp turbo kit on it. It even has a 3in cat on it and egr.
Finally, when looking for one try to get a 94-95 R package. These come lighter weight , LSD, no PS, and Bilstien shocks. Next put a good set of springs and sway bars, a Hard Dog roll bar, and good brake pads. Very fun and fast car.

miats are sweet cars to turbo..they react really well...i ran a 60 trim set up and ran it hard for about 70K miles...bad coil and nitrous led to the destruction of the motor, so if the coil didn't fault out with the nitrous then who knows how long it would have lasted...

Well the miata motors were took off a turbo car that's probably why they handle boost so well. A boosted miata would be fun as heck thou.

240 weighs 200lbs less than miata if u get a hatchback, spend that turbo kit money on an sr20 or an rb. and it odesnt look like a girl car. we use to pick at my friend shawn all the time. but they r cool cars. Drive each car an dpick which one u feel comfortable in. i hate driving miatas because i feel trapped.

How high did the 300hp Miata Rev, because with stock gearing in the Miata is going to still top out at most in the mid 130's unless the motor would rev higher. If you are only racing a Viper on the highway up to 130mph then maybe but if it was an all out race then it does not matter how fast the Miata accelerates when the Viper flies by at 160mph

huh? the miata is around 2300-2400lbs for a 94-95 model, where the 240 is ~2700lbs curb weight.
