B18b w/ JRSC @ 8psi, have been breaking in motor on base map CROME ECU for 300 miles running non-synthetic 10w-40. Going on dyno for tune in couple weeks, should i tune it on current oil, or switch to my castrol syntec 5w-20?

only swap to synthetic after 1500miles.

I did something very similar to this.... i changed my oil a day before going to the dyno with non-synthetic. Its just in good-measure, plus you can probably make 1-2 more whp with fresh oil vs. old oil.

Def change it at 500 mile mark to Fully synthetic. Thats the perfect engine break in period. When i built my RB I waited until 804 Kilometers later (500 miles) Then switched to Eneos full synthetic. Everything was completely fine. As far as for the Dyno day. if your at the 500 mark, Change it. If not dont worry about it. You will only loose maybe 1 to 2 HP.

well i have always heard 1500miles before synthetics. but yea guess the point is ull be fine on the old oil.

eh, its good to change it at3k but it isn't needed. my oil stays pretty clean for
4-5k between changes.

it depends how u drive ur car really

only swap to synthetic after 1500miles. 3000 miles before syn... i would really do 5k no need to switch early. motor can still be broken in 1500 miles. i have had a few poeple with 1400 and the motor was still very weak. had to be rebuilt and rehoned because of syn being used to early.

ever get your tested i bet you can go a lot farther than 6k if you have the right oil.

I recommend using oil when you change your oil.

oil changes every 500 miles for the first 1500 miles. go regular oil at least until the 1500 mile mark or the oil change after.

for my first built b18c (pistons/rods) i changed the oil at 100 miles, 500, 1000, then 1500 with regular 5w-30 oil. then you can change again at 3k miles with synthetic and keep using it from then on. i wouldn't go 6k miles between oil changes on a boosted motor...stick with 3-4k between changes to be safe.

and i think 5w-20 is too light...if you rebuilt the motor with oem parts i'd say stick to what honda recommends, 5w-30 or 10w-30. for built motors some ppl like to go thicker. i've tried a bunch of weights and personally like 5w-40 (i use it in my 1.8t audi and in the teg during the winter) and 5w-50 the best.

just the truth. i know at 3k most car even in heavy working conditions DONT need to be changed. dont believe me change your oil and send a sample of to black stone labs to get tested....

I have a built B18c 5 years strong 15psi street 28psi race and only use 10 40 regular valvoline plus zddp additive...No problems, i change my oil as soon as it turns black!!! Fresh oil before and after dyno runs always.oh i forgot get genuine Honda S2000 oil filter for better oil pressure.

you do know oil changes before AND after a trim tune isnt buying you anything right. and when it turns black still doesnt mean its bad yet.

i've never personally done it but i've read up a good bit on the subject (mostly on bobistheoilguy.com) and experimented with lots of oil weights and brands before going with what i use now. i also have friends with very similar setups (daily driven boosted hondas) do the same and get their oil tested and we've discussed the results. this is my 2nd boosted honda and it's been almost 4 yrs and damn near 70k daily-driven miles on this particular motor...it sees full boost almost every day and it is still running strong. so i do know a LITTLE about what i am talking about :goodjob:

i know what trying to get at and you're mostly right...now i'm not a mechanic but i am speaking from my personal experience. maybe my mind is playing tricks on me but honestly i can usually notice a difference (even if it's slight) in my car's performance after i've run the oil for 3k or so miles. i know when it's time for a change without even having to check the odometer.

truth. i ran a lil long on my last oil change and within 1k miles its dark again. lol.

true i have changed oil in 500 miles on a old motor that usually get oil changes every 3k for its whole life. and after 500 miles it was pretty much black. you cant really test it out by doing multiple oil changes right after each other with almost no run time between. just to help get out ALL the old oil. since you would have to tear down the motor to get all of it. or just do many oil change/flushes.
