View Full Version : Oh God, the aftermath (when launching goes wrong)

Just got the lude running right after 4 months. Just finished my 500 mile break in period on my new clutch/pressure plate/flywheel. Launched at 3.5k, then it felt like I missed 2nd, so I tried again and it "popped" into 2nd. Tried to go into 3rd and realized I was locked out of every gear. I coasted to a parking lot to collect my thoughts. I later had to drive an hour to a friends house all in 2nd (had to start the car in gear)so I could use his garage to figure it out.

I replaced my Clutch Master Cylinder (under warranty), Slave Cylinder (under warranty) and bled twice. Still no change. I checked the clutch release fork, didn't appear bent. So I bit the bullet and pulled the tranny again. Lesson learned.

Thankfully, everything was contained between the pressure plate and the flywheel, so no MAJOR damage. Notice the sheered dowl rods and trashed pilot bearing. And remember, all parts had about 600 miles on them. FML.
reps would cheer me up:(

So I see. :(

My mindset is, at least it broke when I actually have the money to fix it. So I'll be going with a Comp stage 3 or 4- Clutch/pressure plate/flywheel.

It's just money, right?

That's what happens when you buy ebay shit. Sometimes it's best to buy the good stuff for a reason. Exterior parts are a different story, but never compromise on safety and a good product.

Lol, what'd you do try to dump it at 7k. It's in 3 clean pieces, you get reps, but that won't fix your clutch

No, but scholarship money will. :goodjob: it's one of the perks of graduating valedictorian from highschool.

I thought Hondas were reliable.....Lulz, wait till you get a AWD car to launch, lesson learnt.

lol, you're right. AWD is where it's at. After riding in Randal's (remanhart) subbie, I plan on getting one after college. And I've never claimed the lude was reliable, its fun, but not reliable. lol.

Wow that's impressive lol! So the flywheel is ok, it's just the pressure plate that broke?

If I would have towed it to my friends garage, it would just be the pressure plate, but I had to drive an hour in 2nd gear at 4k rpm. That threw the dowl rods and peices of the pressure plate around in the tranny and scared up my flywheel and cracked my clutch disc. So I'm going with a lighter flywheel and a CC stage 3 or 4 clutch/pressure plate.

What kind of warranty do you have that still covers a car that's more than 10 yrs old? On a modded car none the less.

Clutch warranty for 12 months or 12k miles on "defects". Is being built like crap a defect? I hope so. Even if I just get it replaced, I can sell it and make some of my money back.

dude dnt feel bad, i changed a clutch 5 times till i figured out that it was slipping due to my clutch pedal being loose. luckily afterwards i had like four good clutches and pressure plates w/ 500 miles on them... lifes a bitch then you die

wow, lol. I bled and adjusted my clutch pedal like 5 times trying to avoid dropping my tranny.

jordan, you've officially beaten my clutch. or at least what was left of it. at least you still have the S10 to daily

yeah, and I ALMOST sold it to make $400 more than I paid. I'm glad I didn't now.

That's what happens when you buy ebay shit. Sometimes it's best to buy the good stuff for a reason. Exterior parts are a different story, but never compromise on safety and a good product.

I rarely buy ebay knockoff stuff. But I do use ebay ALOT to buy namebrand, used/new stuff. I got all my emanage harnesses from ebay, my fogs/bezels, my gauges and gauge pod, my shiftknob, etc.

The only actual knockoff stuff I've bought there was my BOV (which is not leaking like my turbonetics raptor did) and my obx front tie bar.

damn dude ive never seen anything like that in my life.

i just bought an ebay clutch too...lol.

lol, be careful. this was an F1. I've used another brand called like, XTD or something like that and it did started slipping at 6k miles.

When it comes to think like clutches, I'll be going with name brand now.

lol just what i was thinking:rolleyes:...This guy named Randy made my stage2 6puck sprung clutch and re-surfaced my flywheel. I used to launch my car at about 3500-4k with no problems or slippage. still grabs as hard as when i first got it. heard he makes clutchs for Lethal but im not sure how true that is. pm me if you want info
