I've been wondering myself. How much does the BP(?) motor weight? Its like a 1.8 so it cant be much. I think the LS1 is around 490 with a 6MT (T56?)

I'm gonna guess around 280ish for a 1.8??? I might be way off but i dunno

seemed like it wasnt the best car to make into a drift car. looked like he was having a hard time keeping it from just doing donuts.

 me and Nemesis had a discussion about that as we watched it go around the track. the back end didn't seem to rotate that well while trying to drift. the only hint is that moment when the car first cranks up. but it has a quiet exhaust. the guy said he drives it to work. i think? (i was up too early.)

i've been reading on a couple of other forums, i think the diff btw engine weight is somewhere around 100 lbs, but again that's from other forums.

I don't think it was that much of a difference, maybe 150 lbs or something. But that, combined with the power combined with the wheelbase would make that car either all or nothing. Cars are like Baseball bats. They all have different sweet spots for Drifting. Some like the S14, have a huge sweetspot, you can make mistakes and correct them mid-slide......others dont. I would think that car has a very small margin for error, you apply to much throttle, turn too much, over-compensate and you are going round and round.

But who really cares honestly, that thing is so far beyond badass, panties just spontaneously fly off when it rolls by. It's drags a little panty tornado behind it wherever it goes.

How do you tell? I know the LS6 heads flow better and they're "flat" on the bottom but how can you tell by looking at a motor that's installed?

Does the throttle body look diff?

Thanks.

A friend and I just had the same conversation. High torque and short wheel base generate snap oversteer. And as he went around the track you could see him trying to dance that fine line.

Oh yeah, +1 Glides. Panty tornado... classic!

As far as I know, you can't really tell just by a few pictures.
I THINK the following is true, but if someone knows different, please feel free to correct me:
241 casting heads = LS1
243 casting heads = LS6

The LS6 intake swaps over easy-enough. Most LS1 guys switch to the LS6 intake (no EGR hole in the top of it) and it came on 02+ LS1's OEM anywya.

I think the only difference between the LS1 - LS6 are a few internal passageways in the crank to allow for better breathing of the oil, a hotter cam, and better heads. It is all internal as far as I know.

You wouldn't know its an LS6 by looking at it, I picked it up from one shop and drove it to another for David one time, its a beast for sure. Davids a good guy and its a really sweet car but drifting a 400+hp miata would not be easy

Yes, no matter how good you are, you are bound to fuck up and spin it with that power to pussy getting ratio.

Badass car.

actually youd be very very very suprised at how quiet this car is. i saw it go by a couple times but didnt really pay a whole lot of attention because he was having a hard time drifting. BUT one time he came by and right as he passed you could hear that he was in it, then i was like holy shit a monster miata. you would be caught off guard by this car because of its quietness.

I can imagine, mine (with a stock motor) will get sideways easily with an LSD and stiff springs......

This car is awesome!!!!!!! :goodjob:
