Heres a question since IA is teeming with Hondas. How many of you use Honda Coolant? I know some people feel antifreeze is just antifreeze, but having owned a Legend, you come to find all antifreeze is not made the same.

In the picture above are 3 Legend water pumps: (left to right) Brand new, 90K miles with honda blue coolant, 90k miles green coolant.

This is also an interesting read:

i just store brand coolant i always thought coolant was coolant i mean hell you waste enough of it when your bleeding the system why pay almost 10 bucks a gallon for honda brand but your water pumps do show the difference.

i never knew they had blue coolant tho

ya the coolant is now blue. it used to be green like 6 years ago, but they have now gone to the Type II coolant thats a 50/50 mix so you are technically paying for half a gallon of water :( But with the legends, they actually ran cooler and were less likely for BHG on honda coolant than prestone.

Honda coolant used to be green back in the day, lol. If you dont use the Honda coolant, make sure that it is a high quality ethylene glycol based coolant. The one on the right looks like it may have had some electolysis action going on. Got to make sure the system gets clean during your water pump services and you use a good quality coolant!

Heres a question, i have heard some honda dealers are using green non honda coolant when they have to fix cooling systems, yet factory fill should be blue. Why is this?

it's probably to cut back on costs by using something cheaper? i bet most customers they get don't even ask questions.

i live in georgia.. in order for my aluminum block to freeze my coolant, it would have to be at least 10 degrees farenheit for 10 hours straight.
