That if you don't actively go to church or talk about religion you are automatically labeled as athiest or a non believer? Just curious. I am not really a religious person, I have my beliefs and I do believe in God, etc. but I don't go to church - never found one I like - but yet people keep telling me I'm a bad person because of this. Why is that? Especially when these people are the ones that call themselves Christians or whatever and they don't follow the Bible or go to church and do worse things than I do.
I don't drink, don't smoke, don't do drugs, don't sleep around, etc. but yet I'm a bad person and I'm going to hell. Why is that? And I used to think it was just because those people didn't know me, but even people that know me very well are telling me this.
Just curious.

It's because "Christians" are taught the birds of a feather way of life. If you don't go to church...you suck. If you don't regularly pray...you suck. If you are not near perfect in everything...you suck. They act like, because they do those things, they are above everyone else. I am in your same boat. I canb't tell you how many times I've been asked why I don't believe in God or why do I post in here if I don't believe in God. I've never said I didn't. In fact, it's quite the opposite. They are taught to determine who you are by first appearance. If you don't fit the bill...you suck. Later, QD.

Very true...
I was raised roman catholic for almost 18 years of my life....I saw so much judgement passed by people that had no right to be passing it that I turned away completely.
Since my family was such a big part of the church for so many years I really got to see alot more then the average person I think, another huge reason to not be there.

i'm sorry but that's not true at all... I'm a Christian and i have never said anything of the sort to people that do not go to church.... Church is not what makes u a good person. Doing good acts is what makes u a good person or just not doing bad stuff. BUT faith and belief in Jesus is what makes u a christian. lets face it. the Devil believes in God that doesn't make satan a good ole guy.
And Kristi as a Christian i'm sorry for those that have judged you. It's people like that that give christians a bad name. What most people don't realize is there is a difference in a "religious" person and a Christian. religious people are the ones who go to church ever sunday, yet they do not live the life... basically they are hypocrits. they judge people, they gossip, so on and so forth. That's everything a Christian is not.
hope that cleared things up for u

well... They may be christians but they are back sliddin(spl) As much as i hate to admit it.... Todays churches are full of hypocrits... NOT EVERY CHRISTIAN IS but there are those out there that are just going for the image. I know plenty of good honest Christians and i come from a great church... and i know of plenty of other great churches... but there are "religious people" out there.... so to me u seem like a good person. but whether or not your a Christian is up to u.

That is because you are dealing with people. There are both good and bad persons. Just follow your heart.

then u've not met very many "church-goers" u can't stereotype people just because of some of the things u've run into in life. i'm not gonna lie there are people out there like that. but not every Christian is like that. that is the complete opposite of what Christ stood for. and to be a christian means to be a "little christ" or "christ like" i don't know if u'd be interested or not, but if u ever wanna go to a church where u'll meet plenty of REAL WHOLE HEARTED CHRISTIANS let me know.

again ur dealing with people.... people are either good or bad.
But Christ is always good He always listens, never turns away, always provides. Just give it all to Him and u won't have to worry about other people...

its sad to read that you have met ppl that say they go to church, but act like that. Let me let you in on a secret, they are cliques even in church groups I grew up not being excepted in church just because by being myself. I relize I have to continue looking for something that I feel excepted and move on.

yeah . that's my same dilema... i consider myself spiritual, but not rebound to a set religion. and i've met people of just about every rpiritual denomination and the only ones that are consistently the quickest to try to judge me or"convert" me are christians.
this has happened so many times, i'm chatting with someone in "acme quickie mart" and after a few minutes if the subject goes towards things of a paranormal or supernatural nature and i express my beliefs, they give this look of pity or disgust and then it's on them to try to save me.
i'm like wow.....why the push ?? the "do you believe in god??" is asked, when i respond yes, then the "do you believe god gave his son for your sins?"
and ifi reply with, "if he was sent here and sacrificed for our sins, why is it that we have to repent for the sins we do commit here on earth if him giving his life cleaned that up for us ?? "

I'm anxious to know what type of people you're giving such credability to. Who ever is telling you that you are a bad person that has a ticket to hell despite all of your ethical pratices, should'nt even be considered.
"Church" is primarily in your heart. Physically going to a place of worship is not what determines the degree of your faith.
Simply stated, your faith is determined by what you do, not where you go. :)

see i agree with you, but lately, so many of the good Christians are telling me what a bad person i am when they are worse than me. i know i'm not a perfect person and i know i do some things that probably shouldn't be done, but i think i'm a good person. i don't try to hurt anyone and i do what i can to help others, etc. idk, its just getting annoying. its like i'm not good enough because i don't actively go to church. i'm sorry i haven't found one that is right for me, but that doesn't mean i'm athiest or anything. i just typically don't talk much about religion or think much about it. i have my beliefs, etc. and i know that each person has their own beliefs and views which is why i keep mine to myself - because there will always be someone who disagrees.
who knows. i was just wondering.

Are these "Good Christians" related to you? (Aunt, cousin uncle etc. just a ?)
I don't see why they would label you as a reprehensible person when it seems like they are the ones that are guilty. There has to be more to this story.
I mean, Why would they say that you are "bad?" Is it primarily because you don't make it to the house of worship 52 times per year?

no, they aren't related to me. a lot of people tell me that i'm going to hell or that i'm a bad person because i don't go to church all the time, because i'm outspoken, and i don't like when people preech shit that they don't follow themselves and i will say something about it

Most of the professed christians in our world are not really christian at all. Part of the problem is in the definition. Most Americans define "christian" as pertaining to certain beliefs about the Bible/Jesus/God etc. Actually the real definition is about how one lives ones life. Christian = Christ-like ie. non judemental, loving, friendly, kind, self sacrificing, etc etc. People think because they go to a "christain church" and believe the teachings that makes them a christain. Not so. Not anymore then going into a barn and knowing about feed & grain, saddles, and riding makes one a horse.

exactly... that's pretty much what i tried to explain... A Christian=Christ like=little Christ... We're all human... people are either good or bad... and everyone has there flaws... and everyone messes up.

This is my view on religion. Church doesnt do anything for you. God created church for us so that we would have a place to worship him without worring about being persicuted. it also is used for guidence, that is what the preacher, paster, etc they help understand what God is trying to tell us. now, God never said that we had to go to church, he said we needed to have Faith in him and believe that his Son gave his life for our sins and if we believe in this and him our lives will be written in the book of life. So I dont go to church but I bet I know more about myself and my relationship with God then most church goers. just tell them that the are full of crap and tell them to show you in the bible where it says that you will go to hell if you dont go to church.

When you become a Christian, you are called into a relationship with God (1 Corinthians 1:9). But (1st John 1:3) makes it clear that we enter a fellowship that goes two ways: with God and with other Christians. So you go to church to strengthen your relationship and growing closer to him! Without going to church and staying in the word will become slack or as the bibles said lurkwarm!!!! So in (Revelation 3:16) So because thou art lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spew thee out of my mouth. You shouldnt look at be a Christian as a job or duty! Its should be something you look forward to every mourning.

but in the bible never states the word church, just a place of worship. you can fellowship with other christians in your own home or at starbucks or where ever. I can stay in the word by haveing bible study with my friends and sch and it still never have to go to church. God doesnt care where and how you worship as long its in your heart. worshiping and growing strong with God is an individual thing, everyone does it differently. so because I worship at home and have a bible study once a week with friends I will not grow strong with God and I will go to hell. Your acting just like the ppl I used to go to church with, if they really believe that then they are wrong. In the bible David used to sing and play music in which was they way he worshiped. King Solomon wrote poems and songs which became scripture in the old testiment. by what you are sayin they should be in hell.

I can back what I have written with scripture also. just remember about the times when the jews where in egypt, they couldnt just get up and go to a temple. The christians created the fish symbol because they wrent allowed to worship God and jesus, if so they would be killed. It allowed other christians know that that persons home was a place to worship Jesus and God with out being afraid.

i know what you mean by some christians being very judgemental and pushy, i myself don't go to church because i had a bad experience when i was younger basically they were trying to force me down to the altar to be saved and there were like five different people who were pushing me to go and i haven't been back since, but i do believe in god i just don't beleive that you have to go every sunday to be a christian. it's your own personal choice whether you do or you don't. the people who do judge and are hypocrtical are the ones who aren't being christian.
