Honda releases this to the Japanese public today...and damn if it hasn't got me thinkin.

Just a few pics of the Mugen offerings and the Honda Modulo accessories.

And from Mugen (I'll pass on the wing):

Obviously I'm still really curious about the actual driving dynamics, but after seeing some aftermarket touches, I'm not completely disinterested.

There is also talk of Type R in the works...

I've been playing around with the idea of getting my hands in one when they're available...don't know if it would be best to wait a year until they work the production kinks out...

Meh...

There's a recent Edmund article comparing the 98 itr to the 10 civic si. To summarize, Honda has really lost their touch with the sport side of things. It seems like Honda is going all-green like Toyota... I don't know, I think they should just leave it to mistu and subbie. =T

The rumours of the Type R are showing a 150hp, with 50hp electric boost. Which would be more than enough. Chances of it showing up anywhere near America are (as always) slim though.

I honestly just don't see how Honda is going to pass it off as a sporty car though. The numbers I've seen show it slower than a Fit and a base Civic. Now I fully understand the Honda mindset, I'm not one that's clamouring for a 500hp RWD Civic Si, and I was perfectly happy with the 105hp that was in my Fit. But if I'm going to spend Si money on this, I want more than just 2 less seats, 10 more MPG, and Fit level performance.

I read that article, and loved it, but it's hardly a fair comparison. The FD2R would rape an ITR around any track, all day long.

I would prefer something like the Mugen Insight wing...I just have never been fond that that particular style...

That car really disappoints me because it is basically a Prius with an aggressive body kit. It looks faster than most recent Hondas, but it is slower than all of them. Granted the Type R has promise, but I don't see that coming state-side.

All of these new hybrid cars are really makeing me worry about the future of performance cars and driving. I just read an article the other day about how f1 is having talks about more green technology, this new technology could either be a good thing or the straw that breaks the camels back for the motorsports industry. I love new technology dont get me wrong, but just like all of the problems toyota seems to be having with the fly by wire throttle systems, why fix something that is not broken... nothing will ever take the place of the gasoline powered engine, our dependance on oil goes well beyond just cars. Long live fossel fuels!

Well said! Trust me - they're not pulling a toyota. The prius is a DOG. Compared to that, anything is "sporty". Your car only needs to be better than the competition sell, so thats their goal I think.

People are very forgiving about a car being underpowered - it helps with insurance costs and hell, 90% of the people out there buy a car for looks anyway! (all else being the same like price and perceived reliability)

Yeah, it depends on what sporty means, how relative it is. If they mean sporty, compared to the Prius and Insight, then that's just being the skinniest guy at a weight watcher's meeting.

My frustration lies in the fact that they can't just throwing in a freaking K20 and call it a day. That's all it would freaking take for true Honda fanboys (like myself) to shut up and spend $20k.

I believe the head of the chassis design for this car was also in charge of the CRX, who knew he had shoes to fill. Don't quote me on that though, just remember hearing it. I would assume the dynamics are typical Honda goodness. I can't wait for the Si/R version

K, I'm glad someone else is diggin' the wing on the Mugen. Exhaust tip can go, but the wing is a win

I guess I am biased on the car because this is the predecessor of the CRX, which I have been a HUGE fan of all of my life.

I just don't like the idea of a hybrid. I would want a K series, which if Honda would go along with, wouldn't cost anymore than the techonology of the hybrids.

I say
A. I think I might have some fun with these once we get some in stock.
B. Wait a year after they come out to buy one. Always good to let the first year of a new model pass so they can work all the kinks out.
C. I'm still pissed about the hybrid shit they're puttin in here.
