has any one heard of a toyota starlet kp61?... well my neighbor has one with a widebody on it and i love it because its now a 13b starlet with completly gutted insides. i had an idea i know its been done alot but i plan on building one as well but just with a sr20det motor because the car weighs 1600 lbs with stock motor. i know my blazer isnt a import so i am lookin to get in the game again.. many ppl were sayin a ls1 is lighter but wouldnt the v8 thro off the weight distribution? i wanna pull up to just some cocky racer and watch him just get left.. i hope? anyways if anyone thinks this would be a decent build plz tell me and where is a good place to get a sr20det motor in good condition?

Fuck an sr20, drop a 4ag blacktop in there. It's a way better motor and the knowledge is out there. sr20's don't really make shit for power in their stock from and never really make any torque anyway.

That would be pretty awesome. I'm just somewhat partial to 4ag motors, and considering it's a Toyota that's definitely what I would go with. And if you want boost, blacktops eat that shit up. Supercharge it on 8-10 pounds and it would be stupid fun in a Starlet. Instant TQ, and you would be in the 300 hp range. Different isn't always better, and it's not like 4ag Starlets are all over the road anyway.

Lol who hasn't heard of a KP61 Starlet? If they haven't, they need to be slapped. Hard.
An LS1 in a Starlet is a goofball idea. Neat, but goofy. If you want to do anything, slap a 4AGzE in there, do the suspension to it and roll out. If you put an SR in that car you will need to join the line of those being slapped above.
I miss my Starlet, it's up for sale too. Full Corolla suspension, Kakimoto Exhaust and some other goodies. Dunno what he wants, but my Starlet was clean.
My 86 layed down a respectable 210 to the wheels on a GzE with 10 lbs of boost. With the rear end would hang with FD's to about 105 or so.
whatever you want to put in a starlet is anything.. i think iv seen everything in one.. My fav being the rotary.. because of the weight of the rotary and the starlet is a perfect match.
but id like to see a starlet with a nice na build for a change as a functional track car would be cool to see. Na Sr20ve - F20c - silvertop 20v, na 13b...
those are just cool cars all around..

sr motors are aluminum blocks with iron sleeves i believe? which is different from most FI motors that are Iron built. but rotary is a lightweight to any other motor. And the Fj is aluminum so id guess it would be lighter than the sr.

So let me get this straight. You said the following in your initial post:
"
i wanna pull up to just some cocky racer and watch him just get left.."
So when you pull up to some "cocky racer," you were going to hop out of your car and pop your hood and open the doors and set out a little display of a couple of community church trophies as if you were at a show? Ot were you going to "left" him?
well imma embarrass you some time and make u feel awful..
How are you planning on embarrassing me? I'm curious.

What the HELL ARE YOU SAYING?!
All I got from this thread is you want a Starlet, you want an SR in it for some unknown reason then mentioned a V8 because you said it's lighter but will throw the weight distribution off which makes no sense.
Put a V8 in the back and call it quits, be a man.
What the hell is this about church trophies?
If you want a fast Starlet, rotary or 4AG. However it's not rare or surprising to anyone. I forget Starlets didn't COME WITH a rotary.

I would have to disagree with you everyone seems to think that rotary motors are lighter but it really depends on what rotary you are talking about. I believe the 13B REW is about 100 lbs heavier than the Renesis motor.
A quick search yeilded
SR20DET - 328 lbs
Rotary
-13B block: 180 pounds
-13B fully dressed: 260 pounds -
-13B-REW fully dressed: 327 pounds
I would guess that the Renesis weighs about 245 lbs.

Yes, they are. A GZE swap with basic mods will put you at 200ish, iirc a little higher especially if it's tuned. You really shouldn't need more than that in a Starlet, especially if you're going to strip it out. The only other route I would consider would be the 13b.

From what I've seen, you can't DD a stock sr making over 400. Just because some people do it doesn't mean it works all the time. 4ag parts are easily obtainable, you might have to look a little harder for some things but it's all out there. On top of that, why would you want 400 in a Starlet unless it was a track car? You can make 250 hp all day with a gze or blacktop and be faster than most cars on the road.
The potential of the sr20 is there, but I would never do it in this car.

Yes you can DD an SR making this power - there are many examples on this board!!! Maybe you are confusing what the OP said. He said sr20DET not Sr20DE. And while we are on the subject of the sr, even an sr20DE rides the fuck out - 2 liters, more hp than TQ, and very rev happy outta the box. There is a certain sr20 Starlet in Columbus that you should get to know (Louis) that proves this point perfectly.

No, I never said an SR was a shitty motor. They use to be a cool swap, but now it's extremely played out. It's my opinion. I don't like mainstream bullshit. It's a good motor but it's extremely boring.

SO YES, I SAY AN SR20 IS AS COMMON AS A B16. B16 CAME IN TWO CARS I CAN THINK OF, MOST ARE IMPORTED JUST AS SR20'S ARE PEOPLE THROW IN 240'S. SO YES, AN SR IS A MORE COMMONLY USED US MOTOR THEN A B16. MORON.

What's boring? IT'S IN EVERY FUCKING 240SX IN THIS COUNTRY ALMOST. That makes it boring. SR's are even in other makes and models. The 4AG to me is less boring because it's not as commonly swapped into EVERYTHING, and it revs like shit.

That's what I was thinking. Fuck the fact the fact that it's dangerous and deadly. I don't NOT street race because of high fines. I don't street race because I don't want to kill anyone. Later, QD.

such a fucking ricer. if its got a 13b in it, leave the 13b in it. If you want something with pistons, put a 3tc in it. DO NOT put an Sr20 in it. DO NOT put an LS1 in it. I will murder you./thread
