what model is the s&w. Springfield xd are a pretty nice gun and a .40 cal is a little bigger than a 9mm.

I havent shot the S&W but i have shot and XD. I did not like the trigger pull. it took a lot of getting used to. just my 2 cents

me n my buddy bought guns friday and went shooting saturday. i got a glock26 n he got the s&w sigma .40 (i think this is the gun your refering to).

anyways the s&w performed great. 100 rounds thru it like butter. down here it only cost 310 and u have the option of getting 2 xtra clips or 50bux back thru s&w.

smith n wesson sw40e that i owned, the first time i shot it, the trigger spring broke!! Long trigger pull as well. I dont like it at all. Go and get a XD. Just got rid of my glock for one. Stick with a 9 for cheaper shooting. lol thats why i downgraded from my glock 23c. shop on GON.

i personally have a XDM 40cal. and XD9 subcompact...love them to death...but one thing i hate bout them is they both have a freakin' long trigger pull and reset....but accuracy for both are awesome

I have a Sigma 9 and a XD9 and the XD is a much better gun by far. It's deff worth the 200 dollars extra.

Definitely don't get the Sigma. I've got a S&W M&P 9mm and absolutely LOVE IT! It retails for about $550, but is so much better than a Glock. The Sigma is just the cheap/beginning line for a S&W pistol. You get what you pay for, for the most part. I'd go with the XD if was between the two you mentioned.

I just picked up a XD 4" .45.. thing is an absolute work of art..

Definitely go for the XD! It's worth the money and if the shit hits the fan you want something you can rely on!!

It really depends on the gun.. technically a .40 should have more recoil because it's a bigger round and it's all about newtons 3rd law.. The difference is how that energy is dispersed back to the shooters hand.. I've shot .45's that feel less recoil than the S&W .9mm that I sold.. I sold it for this very reason.. S&W in my opinion is a great entry level gun that is safe and moderately reliable, but if it's your ONLY gun for serious protection I would hold off and get a XD..

Exactly. Depends on the gun. If it's the same exact gun, the .40 would recoil more. I've shot a 1911 .45 that recoiled less than both my s&w 9 and xd9. But of course you're comparing a 5in barrel .45 gun vs a 3in on my xd and 4in on my s&w.

What brand 1911 do you have?? I've wanted a Springfield 1911 but honestly not exactly what you would want to CC. haha :D So hense I haven't had the need to buy one yet..

Well I don't own a 1911, yet. I put a deposit on a Dan Wesson CBOB that I'm getting in April. The only one I have ever shot was a really really old Colt that my buddy has from the World War. It even says United States Property on it. It's an old gun but still shot perfectly fine.

I love my xdm 9, but he could probably buy both the other guns before he got the m. I bought mine for $630, but most stores sell them for over 700.
