...Z :). 1973 Datsun 240Z, old scca car last went around the track in '95. She has a sister I need to go pickup when I cant find someone that can help me with a trailer. Anyway this is no lie and its 100% real when my buddy and I were loading it he called it a "devil car". He knows nothing about wangan midnight or any of that but was just mad at the car haha. Such a coincidence. I might be parting some parts that I dont use from the other car, but theres not a ton of useable stuff just maybe a rear hatch, fenders and stuff depending on how bad these are. :) Cheers. Cant wait to start working on it....have a ton of new old part as well.

As far as I know didnt have one, which is very odd yes I know, but Im thinking it was a little less strict back in 95. I personally have not seen this car run so i cant vouch for it, but the owners mother has told us of some of his scca days, so Idk.

It HAD to of had a cage to run ITS, even in 95. I mean even in 1970 you had to have a cage. lol. If the car ever really raced in ITS it had a cage at one point. Did he give you a logbook?

No I didnt say it was 100% that is was an ITS car I said Scca. It might have been ITS, might not, I dont really care. I got the car and am going my way with it. Got the cars from his mother, so no logbook. Evidently the last race he ran his mother said he ran off course and got disqualified and parked the car and didnt touch it again except for minor things. If a cage was in it ill find out when I start tearing into the floor. The headliner is cut in spots, so the cage might have been cut out. Either way I dont really care, it has a lot of potential.

Lol well actually found evidence of a rollcage being in it before. Looks like it was a six point, which was cut out...and where it was cut out it has rusted. :( Also found some foam which was cut and had old ziptie marks on it laying under the stuff in the trunk. So it probably did have a rollcage. On another not I find it odd that theres no fuel cell.
AND I also bought a set of wide Bassett steels for it last night, but theyre 13s so I dont know if theyll clear the calipers and drums.

Yeah six point would be right. IT cars don't HAVE to run a fuel cell.

Im still looking for someone that I can maybe pay gas money to to help me out with a trailer and can haul it for me. It sucks cause the car is only like 5 miles from my house. We got the black one home with a dolley, but the other one doesnt have a rearend in it, only a frontend, and it doesnt lock so no diec there. :(

Yeah I just figured it would have one in it. I mean with all of the gutting he did....ill probably be putting most of the interior back in though...minus stuff under dash.

I have the frontier, but no trailor. i was kinda hoping that maybe we could help eachother out with both , but i don't really see how at the moment. I am trying to get a turbo ZX just for the front suspention, it has no engine/tranny but does have a rear-end at least.

I got a question for you guys too. So I plan to work on the car little by little during the week before i go into work, and was wondering what yall would use to completely stop rust. I havent looked so I dont know, but im gonna start by pulling the crap headliner out and inspecting the inside of the roof, if its rusty ill sand it to bare metal, but what should i use as paint. Obviously im not gonna use full auto paint since itll be under a headliner, but I want the rust to be dead if there is any. Will Rust preventative spray primer with like a flat or gloss sealing coat be fine?

^yup I hope so. Did some looking tonight and floorpans are shot...I cant believe the guy that had it before...he just fiberglassed over old rust holes....now its 20x worse. Im hoping the floorpans are still good in the other car. theres very little rust in the engine bay so thats a plus at least, but the spare tire area in the back looks pretty rusty but I dont think thatll be too bad of a problem.

I hear that a product called POR-15 is unbeatable for stopping rust. I believe it just rolls on and can be applied right on top of rust. I'm like you and would prefer sanding it down first. I know tons of datsun guys swear by up north for the undercarriage.

^Yeah im gonna go to bare metal and spray with an epoxy primer. As for the areas with too much to save, Ill hopefully be able to salvage the panels I need from the other car. :( I wish I could find someone with a trailer we could use. :( T_T

You Finally got a real car:goodjob: If you need anything at all hit me up, I can get the wheel cyl kits (so you dont have to spend 60 dollars on a complete cyl) and we got a few su,s that work pretty good if you need them to start it up on. I should even have a rebuild kit for them on the shelf. Go ahead and switch to toyota truck 4 pot calipers in the front. And Z car electronics are a pain, my wifes 240 still has that dim headlight from last year and i still cant figure it out.
Seriously man good choice, great find and Good luck.
And dont waist anytime the mitty is on May 1 and its a datsun's this year!!!!!
