So Ilya Kovalchuk has left the Thrashers in a trade. I think the Thrashers will be a better TEAM than relying on ONE superstar to lead them.

Y'all do realize that the Thrashers are ONE point out of a playoff spot with 1 or 2 games at hand on the teams above them? They've become a better TEAM without Kovy.

Kovy wanted 21% of the salary cap a year: $11.3m/yr for the next 12 years. Nobody in the NHL is worth that much. The top 3 players (Ovechkin 8.9, Crosby 8.7, Malkin 8.1). In the budget of the Atlanta Spirit Group (who are horrible hockey owners) the max salary would be about 26-30% of the budget for the team.

Yep. That was pretty pathetic. Then again Bob Hartley played mind games with the goalies as well. Kari didn't play a bad game one, Rangers won 4-2 with an ENG. Moose came in game two, Rags won 2-1. Hartley goes back to Kari and they lose 8-0. Then Moose again in game four.

The owners were actually sinking money into the team we had more than 1 playoff veteran on the team and since then We have traded all the guys that made that team a winning team. Kovalchuk was the last remaining guy other than moose of that team. Thrashers will be sold in the next couple of years I can see it.

That is the other side of it. As much as trading him pissed me off, he might as well go to a team that actually is worth a shit. Thrashers owners=failures.

edit-He probably won't be such a prick anymore either, if I was on his level and had to deal with the Thrashers I would probably turn into an asshole as well.
