A direction of performance or looks would be good.

Clean the hell out of it. Then start off with the basic maintenance first. Then start modding.

Clean it, make it run/handle like new, then mod it. You can never get performance out of an old worn out car.

i think a 7m can be swapped into those for little effort, its not a 2j but its still better than a 5m.
if you wanna keep the 5m, contact DIY Autotune, i think they make a plug and play Engine management system for those now

when a 5m is tuned, it is an AMAZING sounding motor.

OK OK OK i guess i should have expected some of that....
I KNOW it needs cleaned very bad and the basic maintenance... i just got the thing lol... I'm looking a little bit further. First thing first I will have a carwash and detail job... then the basic fluid filter change and such.... but i mean before i go out and get plugs and wires, is NGK good enough or should I go something different? Instead of just a stock air filter, should i go Cold air or does it make a difference? any misc plastics/sensors/ect I can remove and make the performance better?
Right now I plan to keep the 5m at least til she blows.... or i get the money for the 2jz. thats my plans. No sense in dropping the 7m in it. if im gunna do a swap its gunna be done right. i come from a long line of old school camaros, and i am finding out the tuners are much more difficult to get the HP out of em. I would like some expertize in this area....
and the boost will be coming.... just not til 2jz.
About the tuning... how is it done, what do i need, and where can i get it? a push in the right direction is all I am looking for... and im strictly looking for performance... you can stick a flag into a turd, but in the end its still a turd...

Nice mark 2 you got there. Just clean her up and do the normal maintenance. I would just make it look good and save money for the 2jz swap and sink the majority of the money into that motor.

Just looking at your car i see some nice rims & a drop, so i think that would be best, drop it then rims, or rims then drop, than worry about power..

Hell, i wouldnt worry bout changing wheels. he's got the old school supra wheels everyone wants, i'd just lower it with new shocks.
If you are gonna do a 2j i wouldnt bother getting any kind of engine management for the 5m, waste of money. just be ready to pour more money into it than you'll ever get back when you do the swap lol

Its called boost; the only replacement for displacement.

I gernerally like to start any build off with a good smathering of stickers. Big ones, small ones, short ones AND tall ones. I find that a sticker placed here and there will draw ones attention away from the little things such as dirt...or rust....or no engine.
Once you have the requisit number of stickers on it, then you can get a much clearer picture of where to go with your build.

the best performance upgrade you could do would be a k&n filter
orr a cool shift knob
as an accessory. maybe get it detailed?

True, but hey can take the wheels off, polish & paint! or just save them for later & put some "temporary" ones :D

Wheels really bring the old schools back to life. No matter how crappy the car looks, nice wheels really make em pop!

QFT anything you do modification wise to that engine is not going to transfer over to the 2jz

lolz!!!!:lmfao:
yeah i guess ill k&n and throw in some ngk'z with wires and such, but ill leave the tuning for the 2jz. However, I am not putting rims on it. The original supra wheels will never leave this car lol!!!! I love the looks of em and once i clean em up, man that will be nice. and the only reason i havnt detailed the car yet is because im working on getting my license back first.... basically to explain the story....

how about are there any $0 mods I can do? different emissions only sensors, removing unnecessary parts? basically something I can take off the car to make it go faster? every toyota has at least once!!!!

cut springs, take off the whole exhaust. :goodjob:

I dont wanna cut the springs until i can see the weight from the 2jz.... then i will probably just change them, not cut them... and what does removing the exhaust system do for the performance....???

removal of said exhaust will provide insane decibal levels inside and especially outside the vehicle...and i think youll gain high end and lose low end...backpressure FTW!!!!(just not too much)

Seriously though, before you go making power fix the old worn out steering and suspension. The car looks to be unmolested so it probably needs it. You will be much happier with a nice tight good driving car.

already in progress. I ordered a new power steering pump and wiper motor for it which should be here sometime soon (ebay). will flush the whole system check the seals, and make it a good driver before i do any mods, but i figured posting now would give me time to get the bs out the way lmao!!!
