Apparently, I have a valve gasket leak...was quoted at $150 to fix it.

Can I fix it myself for cheaper or no? I hate takin it to someone if I can do it my damn self.

I don't know a whole whole lot about this stuff, but am seriously tryin.

Thanks in advance

That might be it. Can't read his writing, and I sometimes get my words screwed up.

If its an integra as indicated in your username, do it yourself. Its about a 30-45min job for a newb.

It's a 98 Integra. That's great if I can do it myself. What do I need to do though? I'm not sure exactly where to begin.

Thanks

simple. talk the bolts off the valve cover and it comes right off. take a flat head and take the gasket off, replace it and tata! job done. its just like changing oil. gl

You need a 10mm socket, and a ratchet, take all the lil ten mil's off, and pop cover off, replace gasket and spark plug tube seals

Thanks guys. Gonna prolly do it this weekend or Monday. Doesn't sound too hard. I'm pretty handy with tools (I love takin stuff apart n puttin it back together).

But yeah, he told me $150 to fix it. I kinda laughed n walked out.

Thinkin bout goin to the tech around here n takin automotive classes. F mechanics...no offense to anyone who might be one.

F mechanics :( and I just told you how to do it. lol.

I meant the ones around here...the ones that are a holes (yeah, I said A holes. Tryin to cut back on the cursin). I take it in for one thing, and they find somethin else wrong, n wanna charge me my soul for the damn thing.

Like my new tire...someone *I won't name names* insisted that I just take it to them to buy the tire n have them mount it and all that. $105. I coulda bought the tire for $50 somethin and put it on myself...and just taken it to them to balance it I guess. I'm not all sure bout that part to tell the truth.

Nice havin help/an overseer, so to speak, for my firsts...get scared I'ma mess somethin up. But now I know I can just do it by myself if I ever need to take vc off again (thinkin I wanna paint it electric metallic bluuue now). Like seein it done once, then I know I can do it myself.

gasket can be bought for cheap at advance and some hondabond/ high temp RTV for the cam caps. it shouldn't take more than 30 mins for sure including clean up. you can prob get a repair manual online for free. i think super honda used to have them up. MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT PUT THE BOLTS BACK ON TOO TIGHT OR YOU WILL BREAK THEM AND HAVE A BAD LEAK. i just checked my book and it's like 8 ft/lbs to tighten the bolts on top and that is not alot trust me so don't over do it there or your gonna have a bad time okayyyyyyy.

Hell yea dude. On the program most shops use (all data)they will quote it an hours time labor and then mark up the gasket and tube seals. You should see how a body shop runs lol
