Ok so I parted out my i7 desktop over the last few weeks in hopes of snagging up a new laptop. I decided to get myself a bad ass laptop since I am never at home, but it is for school in order to do AutoCAD work as well as photo editing.

Well I started to look around at HP, Dell, Alienware, Toshiba, Lenovo, and ASUS. I found a few Lenovo's that I liked, but the thing was that with all the Lenovos, the GPU sucked balls, and he screen resolution was stupidly low. I wasnt asking for much, but to have a Blu-Ray drive an not support 1920x1080 is a little half ass backwards if you ask me...

Well then I was looking on Engadget, the bible for nerds, and saw something that caught my eye. ASUS G73 laptop, First laptop with directX 11 support. Well I figured ok lets take a look a it.

I start to look at it and I instantly fell in love. Here are the BASE specs on the unit...

17.3 inch 16:9 1920x1080 FHD LED
ATI HD5870 1GB GDDR5, DX11
Intel Core i7-720QM, 1.60-2.80GHz, 2.5 GT/s, 45nm, 6MB, 45W
8GB DDR3 1066 (2G X 4)
HD 1 500GB 7200rpm SATA II
HD 2 500GB 7200rpm SATA II
RAID- 0, 1 or disabled
4X Blu-Ray Read/DVDRW Optical Drive
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit Pre-installed w/System Recovery DVD\

So yeah, its a fucken beast. So I figured yeah whatever, its probably a $2,000+ laptop and it wont be out for another 6 months so I decided to just let it go.

Well a few days later I had to contact ASUS about a special order at my work and decided to ask about the laptop and get a ETA on the release. I got a response that it will retail at $1699 with the base configurations that were posted above and that it will be out in Spring. I was like WTF, only $1699, so I decided to pre-order one.

Well I put my order in last Saturday and today I got a email back form ASUS stating that I will be one of the first 50 people to get their G73 laptops, HELL YEAH.

It will ship either the 10th, or 11th of Feb, and once it gets in I have two 160GB Intel X25M drives waiting for it.

Until it comes in and I can do a review on it, here are some Pure Sex photos of the beast. Enjoy and look forward to seeing a full review and benchmarks on it.

Dual hard drives in a laptop, thats interesting.

I've been looking for a new laptop myself.

Looking for a 13.3 inch with atleast a core i5 or i7, and a good video card/led screen/1080p. Haven't been able to find anything :(.

That one is nice, but its 15.6". I'm looking for 13.3". I want something similar to a 13.3 Macbook Pro, but obviously a Windows based machine.

That is the ugliest laptop I've ever seen, worse then some of the old alienwares.

whats ugly? The fact that its not shiny? The fact that its simple and functional?

function > aesthetics

and to me its looks great. I didnt want anything shiny, I hate fingerprints. That and its a monster. I need a functional AutoCAD mobile workstation.

Lol, it's a computer. Most people buy them to, you know, compute things, not to look pretty. haha

It just looks like a hunk of junk is what I mean, not well designed or built.

i woulda saved 700 bux to go with the 999$ i7 system with the radeon 5750 or whatever it had...

thats sooo much slimmer and mobile, and it'll be badass for CAD too...

i believe that one had the p45 chipset and the CMS controller on board

edit: doesn't ASUS come with a 1yr accidental warranty and 2 yr global hardware warranty after that.... pretty badass

I just got a N61JQ and it's doing pretty good.Me too! I didn't need the beefiness of the G73, and the N61 was only about $1k, sweet deal. Though something seems off with the colors on the screen, they seem a little muted, I need to play around with the calibration. Is yours like that at all?

Hard to consider that portable at all... the battery life with that processor and gfx card setup will probably net 30min of battery life before needing a charge... o.O

battery life on blu-ray watching mode is 4 hours, on internet viewing mode is almost 5 hours, and on gaming mode is 2 hours.

also I need the RAM more than anything and thats why I opted for this model. I could have got the $1000 version and saved about $500, but then would have paid the extra $500 for 8GB of DDR3, why not just get the better laptop for the same price....:screwy:

will it run AutoCAD...

If I wanted a Starbucks book writing laptop I would have got one....I needed something with a processor that can actually do work and enough RAM to run AutoCAD smoothly so I got the ASUS.

I will have some personal benchmarks up this weekend. I have been so busy with school and all its hard to find time to really test this thing out more than just using it. The thing is bad ass.

Nah, I play Mass Effect 2 on there most of the time and never seen a difference with my friends HP and my screen.

G73 pricing isn't bad @ all. Bought my g50vt-a1 @ $1550 Jan 09. Asus laptops are best bangs for your buck.

I think Alienware might still have this beat still....sorry bro

which model? we benched the M15x and it wasnt even funny. The ASUS out of the box completely owned the alienware. After a few tweaks the alienware was a little better, but still it was no match, and $400 cheaper.

then the M17x is just a joke...
$1949 for the unit with the same CPU as the ASUS, then if you want the same amount of memory your looing at $2299, and then you are still stuck with a older 4870 GPU. So for almost another $1000 over the ASUS price you can have a Dell that MIGHT be close to the same specs, but then look what you can do with the ASUS.....16GB max memory, cannot do that with the Dell.

The ASUS honestly is "The Best" high end mobile gaming laptop for the money right now. Im not trying to be cocky or anything, but its just the truth. No one else has anything close for the same price.
