View Full Version : ahhhh fuck, my luck ran out

always thought i was doing pretty good avoiding all of the idiots on the road these days. tonight, however, my luck ran out.
basic story: i was in a left turn lane waiting for a car coming the opposite direction to pass before i turned. girl in a neon is wanting to turn left from the road i'm about to turn onto. i stop, waiting for oncoming car to pass, she decides me stopping is an indicator to just pull out and go. she get's t-boned and the ass end of her car gets swung straight at me. she hits my front bumper with enough force to turn my car almost 90* to the right and hitting me caused her to flip.
the impact shifted my front bumper about 6" to the right, moving everything along with it and destroying my headlights and intercooler as well.
i like to think of it as my car wearing a halloween mask ;).

Damn... sorry to hear that man, what happened to the girl? If I'm understanding this correctly, she got t-boned and was hit on the driver side of her car.... sooo if the impact was bad as it must have been, I'm bettin' she took a bad hit.

she was fine. by the time i got out of my harness and started getting toward her car to see if she was alive she climbed out the passenger door. a little dazed but she was checked out by the EMT's and they said it was her choice if she wanted to go get a real checkup or not. the guy driving the red car that hit her was on a learner's license, and had an older guy riding with him shotgun who was the only one injured with a pretty good gash on his knee from hitting the dash. he wasn't wearing his seatbelt at the time so he hit it pretty good along with bopping his head on the windshield.
so far what i can see i'll have to replace is:
-intercooler, maybe a coupling or two if they ripped
-bumper support
-front bumper
-both front fenders
-headlight assemblies
the core support has a slight tweak in it but it wasn't bad enough to even shift the latch assembly over. the hood is straight, couple of scratches but still closes straight and latches just fine (maybe even better than before ;)). i'm just waiting on getting it appraised to take it apart and see if the unibody got screwed up where the fender is pushed over. i honestly thing she just nailed the bumper and bumper support and didn't really hit the unibody portion of the car because she didn't catch me very far back (didn't touch the front wheel at all). it's killing me to have my broken car sitting there and not be able to take it apart until the accident report comes out and subsequently the adjuster looks at it :(

Hopefully it is not that bad. Sounds like a good candidate for a front end conversion. :goodjob:

nah i think i'm going to do a civic conversion actually. but then someone might actually want to steal my car, so maybe a neon conversion would be more suitable.

did a lot of measuring yesterday... the engine bay is all straight so that means suspension is all still gravy. the front corner where the fender mounts to the unibody might be a little tweaked, but nothing i can't pull.

I hate r32 front ends. If you gonna do a front end... go with silvia square lights with hids... Oh and how did you assemble the lights you had on the car. I never saw those at the last meet(g fudd). Im trying to lose as much weight as possible. The cage just added about 280 pounds.lol...

You should take this opportunity to do an AMC Gremlin front end conversion. That would be teh h otness.

well for the next event it's going to have the invisible frontend conversion ;). i already ordered another intercooler to replace the greddy (just bigger :)) so the car will run. so it will likely be the ugliest car out there, but i don't need fenders or a bumper to drift right?

Less weight, go faster. With no fenders or bumper you will be the uBeR JDM DoRiFto hOtNeSs.

i just yanked the old headlight buckets and attached the lights i had to the top of the popup frame. you have to hand crank them though.
as for the body... i'll stick with popups since i already have a spare set of assemblies sitting around and the hood is still ok. the hood hopefully will be replaced with a fiberglass vented one, or possibly carbon depending on what i find (really like the D-drug and Seibon hoods). i'm looking into all sorts of aero parts to replace the old stuff, but i'm entirely undecided because i like a lot of the kits but unfortunately having a USDM coupe has me at the disadvantage of having to order the parts separately (180sx kit with a rear bumper for S13 silvia) which jacks up the price on most of the kits. the main contenders so far are Origin Labs, D-Drug, Version Select, and Vertex. but there are plenty more to research ;).

full kit, just the bumper would he skraight ghetto. and i agree, the origin is about the hottest i've found and nicely functional with the extra venting under the edge of the hood for the radiator.
now if i could get this friggin police report so i can make my damn claim! :(

uhh.. same exact front/sides, just the rear bumper would be a little different to fit the dimensions of the coupe. basically i'll have to order the kit in pieces because that is a japanese kit and i own a USDM 240sx and i don't believe they have it to sell as a kit like that (can't imagine why though).
the top left of this pic is the rear bumper that i'd have, skirts are the same from hatch/coupe, and then i'll have the front bumper in the pic i originally posted (the "stream" kit)

Dude, I just hit a deer last night. This is a bad month; I got a ticket with 30mph over and a court date. And just bought 2 new tires and 500 miles later had to buy 2 more to replace them(because of the deer). And it is hard to find parts for my 300ZX convertible too!

the silvia frontend does lose a little weight over the popups, but my popups were hacked up anyway.
let me put it like this.... if i keep the popups, my list of parts needed are:
-fenders
-bumper support (cheap)
-intercooler
-240sx bumper (cheap)
-lights (already have some laying around)
if i do a silvia conversion i'd need:
-silvia headlights
-silvia headlight support brackets
-silvia bumper support
-intercooler
-silvia fenders
-silvia hood
-silvia corner lights
-silvia bumper
HalfBaked
10-31-2005, 10:58 AM
But you can get a silvia conversion for like $850-900 and that has everything you'd need. You'd just have to get the intercooler...
But you'd probably get stuck with ugly projector headlights and ugly silvia grill.
I'd go with usdm yo!
