wasup IA, had a question, i think the stock ihi vj11 on the probe is about to take a dump on me because i see oil comin from the bov whenever it vents so i want to know if anybody know of any direct replacement turbos that bolt right onto the factory manifold?

try the IHI from a Ford Thunderbird Turbo coupe.

Try a forum that actually has information on these cars. Theres maybe 3 people on this forum with F2T cars. there is no direct bolt-on replacement. Try probetalk, or mx6.com.

Im pretty sure those turbos were garrets? T3's? Again I could be wrong. I wonder if you could find a IHI off a Subaru, and swap out the exhaust housing?

But honest what I would do is rebuild the turbo, or find a replacement to get your car back running. Then see how far you could go with the stock turbo.

Although alot of the IHI turbos are similar, for the most part you have to swap internals around to make a good flowing turbo. Some of us have adapters for T3 flanged turbos :ninja:

Ha i have some extra ones sitting around.. im not sure if the 323 guys can run a tbird/vj11 hybrid, but i cant see why not.. japan4racing has more experience with 323s. I think he had the first front mount on a 323 GT.

I am one of those few(Notice the Turbocharged FORD avatar) and I know for a fact that the Thunderbird Went to an IHI around 1987. They have T3 flanges

Man why dosent anyone just use mx6.com!?!? That poor slow website. Alot of the other IHI turbos are a pain in the ass IMO to mess with. Your best bet is the tbird turbo as the larger compressor wheel and housing are bolt on to the VJ11. In any case most usable IHI turbos are small and innefficient. For just a stock replacement or a temporary solution, a tbird or a vj11 is fine.. but to really make it move, youre gonna need to step up to a T3 flanged turbo.

vj14/11 would be a down-grade on the probe/mx6 motors. if you put the vj14 cold side on that car you just gave yourself a turbo that flows less. i had a vj14 hot side with a vj11 cold side on my 323 gt (b6t)..i had the faster spool of the vj14 hotside with the higher flow of the vj11 cold. when you do it the other way around you have a turbo that does not spool as fast and flows less....thats a lose-lose situation

some have....alot of 323 guys are finally manning up and running t3 or t3/t4's. if it were me i would upgrade to atleast a full t3...but in all honesty a 57 trim t3/t4 would rock your socks on any of these cars. if those tiny ihi turbos will get these cars in the low 14-high 13 range on basically stock cars, imagine what a manly turbo can do.

dude, you stay about 1 minute down the street from me...lol But the best junkyard upgrade is the II Thunderbird.

the vj11 is too small for the F2, and is too small for the b6t up top. Alot of people upgrade to the GTx turbos on the B6t.

You need to come by the house or something....i stay off marbut road, i see the probe around lal the time.. Does it have black headlight covers?
