Got my Car an Driver in the mail today, an ran across a interesting cash for clunkers article..

Out of the nearly 700,000 used cars traded in here is a small list of some of the most expensive cars traded in...

Wish I could have found the owner that was stupid enough to trade this car in... I would have giving them the "cash for clunker" price for it...

While I understand your sentiment, I seriously doubt that you would have bought a crappy Aston Marton that probably needed $20k in repairs.

There are reasons people sold these cars for $4k.

yeah good point didnt think about the expensive repairs...

but still I know some of those cars ran fine, which makes me sad that they destroyed them..

There are reasons people sold these cars for $4k.

Also, with something like an Aston, its not something you can work on in your driveway at home. Technically speaking it is possible, but from a standpoint of retaining value, people who buy high end cars prefer to have maintenance done by dealer techs where its documented, etc.

So if you have a beater Aston and for some reason your insurance won't cover it, you're probably better off just taking the 4k.

Same with the Mercedes' too, a beater '86 Mercedes might be a cool car for 4k on paper, but when you start looking at buying those Mercedes parts (if you can even find them) its not such a good deal.

4k will barely get you a decent used Honda, let alone a decent used Mercedes.:ninja:
