Check if it has 4 ports in the front of the system. If it does, it's backwards compatible.

Some people have alot of PS2 games they still have and like. For example: Only PS3's that are backwards compatible can play FFXI MMO which is a very popular MMO that has been out for like 8 years. They had players in the millions and I have heard that PS2 FFXI copies would sell for as much as 2,000 dollars (computer and 360 copies sell for 20.00) on some sites cuz they were so scarce. FFXIV MMO will be coming out for the PS3 but not till later this year, so people like having the PS3 backwards compatible so they can play both games. That's another reason backwards compatible systems are worth more than even a newer bigger memory PS3. Just saying lol. The 80 gig PS3 systems have both: some are backwards compatible, and some are not that's why I was asking him. If his can play PS2 games also, it's worth more than one that cant.
