I'm in IT and coming out of college was the hay-day for the IT field (late '90s). Seriously, I knew people making 40, 50, 60, even 70k coming straight out of college! It isn't like that anymore, though. Companies have cut back and aren't spending like the world was about to end.

More, the first time I made $40k in a year and had to file taxes I was PISSED.. there are basically no deductions and they take a nice chunk of your paycheck. I did much more last year but because I had a small business on the side I only had to pay about $1k.

I make a little bit more than that if I am allowed to use my company to back me up. (Hell, it is my money, I can do as I please with it) :D

On another note, I thought the nationwise household average was about 45k. I am wondering where these figures are coming from.

Household would include both parents while this one is per person? I dunno, just a guess...

RandomGuy
10-27-2005, 12:59 AM
yeah it has to be 40k as a household... cuz i work in market research and daym... now that i realize it, (we collect household income)... and daym.. its RARELY over 40k... and those over 40k are over 100k but id say 40k is average. but not per person. cant be...

Honestly you should. But on the flipside people would become firefighters for the wrong reason (money), instead of really wanting to help people. Same with police, and teachers. It's still sad the people that risk thier lives for everyone else make just enough to survive.

Yes, that has to be. As you can see but our poll, we live in Atlanta a top 10 metropolitan city and I know only a handful of people who are making over 40k a year. Think about if you live in Montana, Kansas or other smaller cities your average household median would be about 25k. Don't get me wrong, I know there are tons of millionaires and people making over six figures but this is the national average.

I think that articles numbers are either messed up or mis-information.
