I think the Miata is a fine piece of work. It was afterall the first true roadster and, although underpowered. It delivers very well when driven as stock or as lightly modifed on the track.

It doesnt matter if it ends up being coined as a girl car for its soft lines and pretty eyes and whatnot. It does what it was meant to do and hasnt really been snowballed like everyone else trying to make their particular pure sports car more luxurious. Or adding more HP than necessary to take away the fun of driving it as normal people would. U dont need high HP to have a "fast" and fun car.

Even the 92-95 Dodge Neon was fun to drive, although slow. As for that Civic comment. LSD makes that FWD coupe/sedan a monster in its class in corners. I am not even an amateur racer but the suspension setup and LSD system in the new SI gave me lots of confidence in the corners (upon my unlisted testdrive). LSD is very helpful and the OP of all people should know that.

Miatas are true sport cars, they benefit greatly from lsds. Put them down all you want if it makes you feel better, but the truth is my dad in his miata would absolutely tear you a new one in the mountains. They aren't very powerfull because they were never meant to be. They were built to be cheap and responsive. They are a true drivers car.
