AR-15 GUYS, WHERE YOU AT??

i am considering a AR-15 build as a next project, what have you guys spent? what is the range for a budget build? i seen some people put together one from 550 to like 700 for the gun alone minus mags n stuff. note that by me meaning build is to just get the rifle assembled alone without upgrades yet. any links will be helpful on where to get parts and threads to a build. thanks in advance.

not tryin to sales pitch ya. but i was talkin to a buddy the other day, he is trying to unload a aimpoint with GG&G mount for like 200-225 if i remember correct. I could grab it for ya if u want.

can you get me a picture by any chance? My build will be a longer project because AR parts are expensive as crap! just trying to get the basic rifle together first.

i spent a good bit on mine, but i got a really nice setup. i went with a pof piston upper and double star lower. rock river operator stock and i have it loaded with magpul goodies...

nice! i think i might have to do alot more time on ar15.com. There are way too many options.

Get the base gun first so you can enjoy each upgrade as you go along. Buying a already customized gun is way way way way cheaper than building one. They dont hold there value well. You can buy a DPMS sportical for like $700 new now.

What are peoples experiences. I dont doubt home brew can be just as reliable if not more reliable than a factory gun, but what skill level is required to achieve this?

Anyones home brew really been run hard against factory guns for comparison?

There is no real fitting that has to be done with homebrew guns. Extractor failures are the most common and extremely dirty gas tubes from not cleaning properly oh and cheap used mags.

Homebrew guns can be done properly, if your not buying ccrappy seconds and what not. There are alot of companies on the web now that buy the big name brands seconds and piece them together. You might end up with a delton barrel, a m&p blank upper, a dpms barrel nut, a utg front sight post, etc... you get the picture. Anywho.. If your using factory components you should end up with a nice little project. DONT SKIMP on a good quality bolt and for gods sakes clean your weapons. Most people shoot the cheapest dirtiest ammo they can find and dont clean there weapons.

I put almost 3000 rounds through one of my home brew sun devil billet upper/lower AR's in one weekend and had less problems than my buddy who put 1000 rounds through his factory RRA AR. Granted, his gun was fresh off the shelf and mine was broken in, but he had two or three ftf's, and a problem cycling after 900 or so rounds without cleaning. I have close to $2000 in my setup, so I would have been disappointed if it wouldn't have made through 3000 rounds without a problem.

thats great. any cleaning or lubing in those 3k?
