I just got an interview scheduled at a roofing sales company in fayetteville. I do not know much about how the whole thing works. Is it hourly plus comission or am I paid only if I make a sale?
anyone who has done this, please give me some pro's and cons on the subject..
any information would help.
The job description says 3 sales per week minimum quota. Seems like a great job if it's something worth doing.

My buddy used to do this. It is going to be commission only, and apparently you have to meet your quota. It will be very very hard to get 3 sales a week. You basically have to make the people comfortable with you, and you have to figure out a way to get them around their deductible with their insurance company for them to agree to do it. A lot of them will complain about paying for some of it up front before you do the work as well. Also, a lot of times you will have to send them to your collections agency to get the money, because they will not pay when the time comes. This is just what my buddy had to go through though, I do not have personal experience with it.
My buddy hated it with a passion though. He quit it to go work at Publix.

A good friend of mine does it and I believe he makes strictly commission. Not an easy job. You should be knowledgeable about roofs and such. I went through his company to fix the leaks in my roof.

It's really not a question that anyone can answer except for the company. Just because one person at one company gets paid one way, doesn't mean they all pay the same way. The above two answers really have no bearing on your answer. Only the company you're talking to can answer that. Later, QD.

Yeah, you should ask these questions in your interview..
Hell, they should tell you this information regardless in the interview... so just promptly decline if it isn't for you.

Biggest part of being a salesmen is good self image and being confident.
my 2 cents anyways.
for about 5 months last year, i worked as a martketing assistant for a roofing company in alpharetta generating leads for roofers(during the hail storm of 2009). I couldve been a salesman but i wanted an hourly pay. it was like 10 bucks an hour and $5 bucks a lead, or something. Salesman worked off of straight commision---keep in mind every lead doesnt end up being a customer. a lot of people slammed the door in my face, a lot of people would look out the window and not answer. blah, lol. you are going to use a lot of gas driving around atlanta, looking for people who need a roof done. and sometimes, you will drive out a couple of times to the same house, then they will decide that they arent going to go with you again, they want to go with another company. i dont know what you are going to be doing, but you will be doing what i did+the inspection/roofing part. all i did was try to get the customer to have a salesman come out and do a free inspection
honestly at first it was cool, but a couple weeks in i was ready to go.
you can make money though. some of the top salesmen brought in 6 figures. but keepthose were a couple out of a lottttttttt of roofers.
good luck!

Okay. Here's the deal. Ive worked for 4 different roofing/construction companies. Ive run the crews, made the sells, been the climbers. I am now an adjuster for the insurance companies.
The deal with roofing companies is this.
They are out to make money, and any single cent they can squeeze out of someone they will. This means the customers. This also means you. If you don't make sure you get paid, you will get screwed. Trust me. I have multiple lawsuits with different companies over money owed.
Roofing/Construction companies are nothing much but a bunch of sleezy salesmen. Yes, Ive been that sleezy saleman. It works, it makes you money but its a fucked up job in the end. You burn shitloads of gas, and only make comission. It realistically takes you 2 months to get your first check.
I got out of that game and became an adjuster and I am much happier. Yes, it cost a good bit of money for my licensing and yes it cost me time and money to work with these companies to figure it all out. But I know both sides of the business and its a tough one to be in.
I am not saying don't take the job, I am saying its not easy, its not the most ethical thing (look how many companies are out there, sooooooo much competition) and honestly only getting paid like once a month sucks dick.
Some questions for you...
1. What company are you interviewing with?
2. What do they pay per job, it will either be percent of job or percent of profit.
3. How big is their office?
4. Do they keep talking about how much money so & so made last month?
Do respond, I'll give you a heads up with what their deal is. I probably know 80 percent of all the roofing/hail damage claim companies in GA. I know many owners and project managers from the type of work I do.
I will also tell you this, the hail damage claim game started in 07 when those crazy ass storms fucked Atlanta up and the CNN building and such. Since we have gotten storms here and there but nothing as big. If this spring does not bring hail, there will be no new territories for the roofing companies and only the leads that were from other customers will be new claims.
If you have other questions, feel free to PM me. If you really need to talk, I'll PM you my number and well chat when I have some time to talk .

Never heard of them, good luck.
So many companies are hiring reps, you can pretty much pick whoever you want to work for and go.
If you'd like suggestions, let me know.
