Peugeot and Citroen always release some beautiful and bizarre concept cars. Check out their new one. Looks a lot more conventional than some of their other concepts, but no denying that it is GORGEOUS. Like they say, there's a bit of Aston in the lines. This is probably what Peugeot's next 40x car is going to look like.

Ahead of the official unveiling of the SR1 Concept at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, Peugeot has released some teaser images of its next concept offering. The Peugeot SR1 Concept is a forward thinking convertible roadster – complete with an eco-friendly hybrid drivetrain.

The images show a design language that is familiar with future Peugeot models, and on this vehicle reminiscent of a recent Aston Martin DBS Volante. The unique front mouth is clearly European in nature, and blends well with the lines of this concept car. To motivate this open-air sports car is a combination of a 1.6-liter THP gas engine, capable of a respectable (for its size) 218 horsepower. To give this drop-top the scoot its lines deserve, Peugeot has mated the 1.6-liter gas engine with a rear electric-motor that is good for an extra 95 hp – bringing the total to 313 hp. The hybrid technology in the SR1 uses Peugeot’s HYbrid4 technology, which will eventually be available on different models in the Peugeot range. Peugeot believes the SR1 concept offers convincing proof that driving enjoyment can be combined with environmental friendliness.

The vehicle’s dynamic efficiency is enhanced by a rigid, lightweight structure comprising of a one-piece body incorporating a tubular chassis onto which are mounted the mechanical components and suspension. The SR1’s the suspension consists of double wishbones with drop links at the front and the rear. For added precision, the SR1 also features four-wheel steering. Motorized links on the rear suspension wishbones control the turning angle of the rear wheels as a function of vehicle speed, giving the vehicle superb agility under all circumstances, says Peugeot. Peugeot says that the combined fuel economy will reach 48 mpg on the European cycle.

Expect the full unveiling to the public to take place in March at the Geneva Motor Show.

Yea it is crazy, but concept cars are meant to be above and beyond any sense of practicality when it's just a showpiece. I'm sure a production model would have a much more conventional interior.
