That's because you were trying to accelerate in snow/slush/ice/rain. Your tires weren't making full, continual contact with the asphalt for gripping, so that's why they just kept spinning. Next time, try to accelerate at a slower rate and get moving to where your tires do make a solid contact with the asphalt and then you'll be able to successfully achieve better traction for taking off.
