hi. ok so we all know type r connecting rods have the "R" stamped on them, but my question is what about the rod cap. On gsr connecting rods, the rod caps have P72 stamped on them. So would a type r rod cap have P73 stamped on them? thanks, we are also talking about a b18c5 just so we are on the same page.

you do not mix rods and caps... they stay with together no matter what.

ok, yes rod and caps stay together. im just researching type r stuff. recently purchases a type r short block in a disassembled state, "previous owner spun a rod bearing, and i noticed all the rods have the "R" and all the caps are marked p72. however the rod and cap have been etched 1-4 with the respecting connecting rod to keep them together. just needed to solve this puzzle. so basically im screwed or have any engine builders out there seen this before?
type r "R" connecting rod with p72 caps. thanks for all your help everybody!

you are gonna have to trash the rod that spun a bearing probably, maybe resize all of them to be sure about it though.

so its ok to have a p72 rod cap on a p73 rod? in my books, if the rod cap is not the same cap that originally came with the rod, then the mating surface will never be the same possibly causing out of round or just plain not perfectly round, especially when itr's are turning on upwards to 9k. so basically i have a trashed set of itr rods with no rod end caps which = junk.... no way to machine them?

why dont you just find a nice set of aftermarket... why are you sweeting over type r rods?

budget is a factor. also im not going for anything wild. my goal is a fresh o.e.m ish, "stockish" itr build to enjoy for a long time without burning a quart a week. this itr shortblock will be motor 4 in my integra so i want a good old o.e.m fresh rebuild with my special touch for that extra lil boost in hp. im just being meticulous about this build since I have just terrible luck with motors in hondas. LOL!

Resize the rods, should be okay.

well trying to make a b16a3 head into a type r. plan on valves, valve guides, springs, ti retainers, close to o.e type r cams, and message the ports in the head. gasket match, all those little things to get that much power. even if it prob adds only 2 hp, lol

your doing a fully built head for 2 hp instead of forged internals?

well i had itr internals for the high rpms and 10.6:1 cp, but if those p72 rod caps are not whats suppost to be used with the type r rod, then i need new rods which in turn leads to aftermarket rods, so lightweight and strong aftermarktet rods for big$$ or remachine the type r rods and p72 rod cap so they will be balanced for 9k. mo money i dont have, DOH!

those rods are junk if they dont have the original caps. dont even bother thinking of having them machined true because they will cost you more. and they will never be like the original ones.

I think when I got my arp rod bolts put in it was $30 a rod to have them installed and resized.(I know the install of rod bolts is just basically a whack from a hammer, but it was included.) But I'd buy some Eagles if I were you.
