How much would it cost? What kind of gun would I need to look at for a starter?

Any hunters here on IA that I could tag along with?

Savage sells package guns that are very accurate and fairly cheap. You can hunt cheap, once you buy camo and gun. OR you can make it expensive. lol Just depents on lease, or public land hunting, what you are hunting, stand, etc etc. Ask specific questions and i'll anwser them, lol

I would say a .243, .257, or .270 would be a good starter gun for ya. Or I got a nice used .30-.30 w/ scope for sale, just sayin. Some camo if you want it, some people don't wear it. A tree stand, hunting license and somewhere to hunt.

Deer.... quails, whatever. .Something I can kill and eat.

So once I get a camo suit and gun, where do I go? I mean where do I get a license, and what are the safest places?

For gun try a Mosin Nagant 91/30. Very cheap milsurp rifles that can be very accurate at the yardage needed for deer, etc. You can pick a nice one up from a gun show with all the accesories for about $120, here are my two. Milsurp ammo will run you from 4-7 bucks a box for 20 rounds of corrosive, which is fine you just have to clean the gun more often, esp after shooting. If you wanna use noncorossive ammo it gets a lot higher though. Milsurp is fine although fmj arent the best for hunting.

Wmas are pretty good spots to hunt, but you need an orange vest that is visible esp when walking, or a warden will prob. ticket. You should pick up a hunting/fishin rulebook/safety, it lists places for licenses, game season info, safety info, etc. you can find em almost anyplace that sells hunting acc.

You usually have to tag the animal, esp deer, iirc. I havent been hunting in a loooong time though. You have a certain limit and regulations you have to follow when hunting game though, its all in the safetybook.

I say buy a package gun that comes w scope. 400 dollars and some range time and a savage will be very accurate. Camo just all depends on temperature. COlder it gets the more layers you want. You will need an orange vest. You can buy tags and licenses online, but you need a hunter safety course I think, could be wrong on that one. Quail you want a 20 or 12 gauge or anything in between. lol semi or pump preferably. Usually need a dog for quail to be fun though

Stop by walmart and pick up a state rule book and read up. YOU DONT NEED CAMO! I have killed more deer without it than with it. Orange vest, rifle/pistol, ammo, liscense, hunter safety card, pen to fill out tags, and ALOT of patience. IF your going to get real serious into hunting and your ever down south around savannah or when i am up in dahlonega again i could take you out and give you some basic rules/info into the sport.

I forgot all about the hunter's safety class, and I doubt you want to throw a shot and bleeding animal in your stang's trunk. You really need to hold a gun and see how it feels to you, helps to shoot them before hand also. You want something you can handle (recoil) and something that feels comfortable to you.

I have a draganov or an AR15 that will prob obliterate any deer so im out. I think you want a rifle that doesnt shoot a big bullet and shoots very slow (velocity wise) you dont want to shoot a deer with a subsonic .223 round and blow its guts out.

GKTIB or whatever his GF said he was hunting all over xmas break so hit him up. If she was telling the truth he will have some insight

Your not serious are you? 7.62x54 and .223 are very popular deer hunting rounds. Neither are considered large hunting rifle calibers. If anything .223 is actually considered an underpowered round.

Subsonic ammo is considerably slower shooting so it would do less damage. Less velocity = less power depending on the grain of the bullet.
