AK questions

I've been looking into getting an AK47 variant and I wanted to get some opinions from people in here. I will probably get rid of the furniture and replace much of it with polymer guards or a rail system. I want to be able to mount at least a red dot on it. I'm not set on a folder or a sliding stock at this point but a sliding stock will probably get the nod. I'm also wondering if the stock from my AR will fit because I'm about to upgrade that one so I'll have a spare laying around. I know very little about AK's so I'm doing all my research before I pick one up. Any opinions would be appreciated, I'll probably end up picking one up at a show so I want to know what I'm looking for before I go.

The Norinco is about the best AK variant IMO. If you can find a MAK 90 in good condition I say go with that. They have a really nice trigger on them, chrome-lined and ribbed barrels, and all accessories fit on them. You can use the AR stock on the AK you just have to buy the adapter piece for the rear of the receiver. You can get a replacement dust cover for them that has a top scope mount on it for a red dot, Eotech, etc. They are only about $30. It's better than having it out on the top handgaurd because it puts the sight closer to you, rather than being 15 inches away from your eye. If you put a folding stock on it, you will have to make sure that it is 922r compliant, meaning atleast 6 USA made parts, I believe. 1 USA made mag counts as 3 compliance parts and stock, grip and foregrip count as 3 more. I have the ATI Strikeforce package on mine and I am satisfied with it, but I'd honestly rather just have a collapsible only stock and not a foldable/collapsible one.

I've used foldable ones and I prefer just a collapsible stock as well. I will never shoot it without the stock extended so having it fold is not really useful for me. Thanks for the input.

why the AK over the AR? (not knocking, just curious)

IMO, the AK is a WAY better gun when set up right. I can shoot in a 1" group at 200 yards with mine, then write my initials.

I got a $100 says you cannot do either of the two tasks. You might be able to write your initials somewhat legible with about 100rds....

get a good ak make sure its not a romanian wasr10 or shitty ass century arms build if you can go to kvar.com and get yourself a bulgarian ak which are awesome and its an arsenal brand which are the best manufacturer on the market

I'm not getting rid of my AR, just want an AK as well. Ammo is cheaper and I just want one. My AR will probably always be my primary and get most of my money.

AK's are very simple guns. For instance a field strip an AK consists of 3 parts that you take out and clean and re-assemble. Also the operation system is easy and quick for any shooter "especially newer ones" to understand. Yes the AK is fairly inaccurate when your past 200 yards unless you pay nearly $1000 for a Krebs AK, but all-in-all AK's are very good weapons that you cant really fuck up and you wont ever go wrong with purchasing.

As far as optics go, if you want something that is just a dot, the Ecotech holographic is the only way to roll. i prefer the folding stock to the sliding one also. Ive never shot an AK with any kind of optics on it except iron sites but i know the Ecotech is whats up when it comes to an assault rifle. The only AKs ive shot are the ones we took from Iraqis on my las deployment so they were all pretty basic.
