Ok here goes. I didn't see this problem in the forum already but if it is im sorry for reposting. I have a 1992 da rs model. About a month ago we replaced the thermostat when it had started overheating some. The thermostat lasted for about a month then we ran across the same problem again so in thinking it was the same problem replaced it all over again with another 180 degree thermostat. Well to my suprise this didn't help at all it actually made it much worse putting the car almost into the red very quickly. I have a job that i work every night where im required to drive approximately 200 miles a night and so it was very hard for me to just stop when the car was overheating but in fear of blowing the head gasket or worse I left work and parked my car at home. Here is a run down of how it was overheating. When I would come to a stop it would stay normal then when I accelerated it would rise up a good bit. Also sitting still the heat would feel like air conditioning and then get hot again at acceleration. In fear of messing up the car bad we took out the thermostat and I drove it like this for a night. The car then ran almost on cold idle all night long. It would barely warm up when it sat still for about 10 mins but then would drop back way below cold again when I accelerated. I have no heat also of course when we did this. In fear now of hurting the motor due to running the car with it this cold I went and bought another thermostat this time 170 degree since HONDA calls for a 172 degree thermostat to work properly. The car is not overheating just yet but it is starting out the same way as before by the heat feeling ice cold while sitting still idling and then getting semi warm after acceleration. The temp hand is right at half way which is not a normal for this car either before the temperature problems it would sit between a quarter and half way as the normal for idle. Im beyond confused on what it could be and being limited on funds isnt helping either. Please if anyone knows what it could be your suggestions or advice is greatly appreciated!!!

advance auto parts.
we did bleed it tonight i made sure to use the bleeder valve and completely emptied the radiator to make sure to get all the air out.

there was alot of stuff in the new coolant though thats the only reason i was thinking it was the radiator.

sounds like a clogged radiator. You probly cleaned it when you did it the 3rd time. I would suggest flushing it over and over with water then drain and fill when it is finally clean water coming out.

thats what im thinking to be honest the little fins on the top of the radiator have white crust stuff all over them kinda closing them up. we cleaned it did a radiator flush but im thinking the radiator is just tooooo far gone. im ordering one in the morning. hopefully that will fix the problem.

Check the headgasket if you had your system completely flushed and the coolant is still dirty you may have another problem.

i doubt the system was cleaned properly. i can put money on it the most that was done was a garden hose in the rad.

guys i know im a girl but i know a little bit about cars. no it was not done with a garden hose. granted it was done using a radiator flush from the parts store it may have not been the greatest choice i dont know but i followed directions completely and to be honest there is no more flakes and such coming out of the coolant but the top of the radiator still has the white nasty stuff i guess from buildup around the fins. im hoping when i order the radiator today it will solve my problem.
