Autoblog...

The Honda NSX might be gone, but it's set to live on as the HSV-10 GT in Japan's SuperGT championship.

Although we don't have an official release or specs yet, we do have the image above and some preliminary details on the HSV-10 GT or Velocity Sports Honda. Built to the 2010 GT500 regulations, the new front/mid-engine racer from Honda is packing a 500+ hp, 3.4-liter V8 and sending power through the same Ricardo sequential manual gearbox fitted to the 2010 SuperGT cars from Nissan and Toyota. Underneath all that glorious carbon fiber is the same chassis Honda's been working on (originally as an NSX replacement) for the last two years. The SuperGT season opener is scheduled for March 20 and 21 of 2010, but we expect more details and a host of high-res images to hit soon.

You bring up a big point in that even though GT500 cars share very little with their production counterpart, this is the first time where a full prototype will race which the HSV essentially is since there is not one in the dealers.

Kinda spoils the formula for GT racing imo.

Yeah they pulled the same loophole that allowed Toyota to run Supras after they had been discontinued. Though I don't really understand how that works when not one of these has ever been sold or even offered at a consumer level.

Post deleted as it had nothing to do with the GT500 NSX and was instead the failed street version Honda will not produce.

Have you any vids of the GT500 car?

So how long do you think this cars technology will trickle down to production? I say 5 years from now.

i can almost guarantee that IF they make this a production car, it will not have a v8 in it. but would be super cool if they did, even if it had say 300 hp, a dohc vtec v8=sex

I dont think they will put this car into production. The styling and all will be different I think. I think it will hold some of its cues but I bet the technology is what is going to play the biggest role. I think it will trickle down to whatever replaces the S2000 (hopefully within 3-5 years and the NSX replacement will probably show up in 5 years.

sorry, but I don't ever think Honda will produce a 3.4L v8 on the streets. It goes against their "Going Green" movement that they announced publicly last year.

Yea I think they will do an Inline 6 for the NSX replacement and the S2K replacement will be far more economical.

EDIT: Now that I think about it the replacement for the NSX will have a V8. The HSV was built to be ready for production from what I have read. That means the motor and all was designed to go into production. I am sure it would be detuned.
