so i got a 1991 hatch. couple weeks ago the speedometer stopped working. took a look at it and it seemed fine
1. took it out and messed around with it to see if it was in wrong or something. = nothing
2. checked the back of the cluster it was plugged in. = fine
what could it be? do speedometer cables go bad?
any help is apreciated
thanx

you dont have a vss.
but best bet its the spedo cable.
id un plug it from the franny and take the cable out and re lube it and slide it back in,
or probably the cable snapped it self.

thanks to all. i didnt know those things went bad
use a cordless drill and spin the speedo cable at the end that goes into the sensor.tranny. ur gauge should read a mph, if not then ur cable is bad.

They just break with age, pretty normal.
And techincally there IS a VSS, its in the cluster. When the cable breaks you get a VSS code.
