is it poss that my motor broke-in after ~150miles?

I only ask this because I've been running it on 30W non-detergent oil, driving up and down hills, doing plenty of engine braking, etc... and i did the compression test on the motor today,and it had 180psi on all four cylinders. I think that means my piston rings are all holding perfectly, and that its broken in...

EDIT: the other reason why i ask is because i kept reading, and i thought that supposedly engines werent FULLY broken in until after 1500 - 2000 miles, and thats the time to switch from 30W to the standard 5W30 or 10W30...?

The school of thought on this is split between engine builders. Some say you need to give it time to break in, others (myself included) feel an engine is broken in within the first 30 minutes of driving. Alot of the NASCAR engine builders say the harder you beat on a recently assembled engine the faster it breaks in.

i cant think of one svt cobra that was test driven new off the lot with over 2000k that wasnt beat on on the test drive....

i did my bearing break in in my drive way i let it idle for a while and i did the oil changes
then i drove it around less then 20 miles doing engine braking so the rings set in right...
and that night took it to moreland and let it riped....still running like a champ

Hm, i think i may switch oils then... I'll probably go to something really thick too, when its cold that way my motor can build oil pressure almost as fast as a stock motor on those cold startups. It takes my motor about an extra second or two for it to build pressure, and i know its because of the sandwich plate, and feed line, etc. but its kinda discomforting watching that light not go away IMMEDIATELYimmediately.

If its built right there is no break in so to speak. Change your oil if you havent already and if it hasnt blown up by now its good to go.

Compression numbers dont mean shit the rings seat in the first 60 seconds anyway

At startup you dont want maple syrup in the cold weather that eats bearings more than anything, run a thinner oil in the winter, thicker in the summer

So, it sounds to me like switching from the non-detergent 30W to a full synthetic 5w30 would work out best then, huh?

I break in my engines the way I drive them. Thats what I have heard. If you drag or road race your car. Put stress on it immediately.

NHRA builds an engine in 90 minutes and then runs a 3-5sec 1/4 mile. So....you tell me.

Nascar builds an engine and then they run hundreds of miles on them WOT.
