Ideas for my 911 thread

Ok so,first off I found out my 911 has the chain tensioner upgrade (big hell yes)
Now I'm gathering some ideas on which direction I want to take my car in. I'm looking for a fun street car, pretty light with some power. I will leave the engine talk out of this thread and save for a later date.
This is all stuff I plan to do within a year or two at most or so if I follow through with all of it. Like I said, gathering Ideas so far.

In no specific order I'm looking to change the door panels to the RS/RSA style
Possibly remove full stereo/wires/amp (from PO) and speakers.
Already started removing the AC (since they never work originally and I want lightweight.
Turbo tie rods
New shock inserts (probably Bilstein)
Custom cage from a local friend and fabricator powdercoated Guards Red to match outside.
New headliner
RS carpet or no carpet at all and respray tub.
Take out wooden (from the factory) floorboards and may replace with aluminum (black or the silver finish) Depends on what colorways I go with for the interior.
Possibly new bumbers front and rear along with Carrera RS ducktail
Wevo full shifter
New seats
Delete rear seats
I think that's it for now.
I am going to post some pics of others cars I've gathered ideas (all credit to the owners of pics and cars) and possibly list more.
Let me know what you think.

Not looking to make it a RS rep but something I like and will end up keeping until I live in it if I have to. Not too worried about resale :D

You've got some pretty good ideas so far. There is one thing I would do if I had your car. I've always liked the look of the turbo widebody. I know doing a real metal widebody conversion is costly, and probably adds nothing to the car performace wise, but there's something about a fat 911 turbo rear end that I like lol. I've always preferred the look of the 930 generation 911 over all other generations (except maybe the 993), and still keep it on the top of my list of cars I'd like to own within the next 5 years.

When you get ready to start talking engine talk, I'd like to get in on that topic.

That is a good look, I just haven't considered changing it yet. If I do go that far with the bumpers depending on which ones I may go that route. Really depends on the bumpers.

I still don't know how I feel about red roll cages, I've seen them in both bare tub cars and full interior ones like this:

I think if you're gonna run it bare with no carpet then go for the red, otherwise I would put down black carpet and suede and carbon fiber everything else...with a matte black cage.

Keep the radio, it's really not going to make a weight difference. For sound mount a pair of quality indoor/outdoor speakers to the roll cage. :tongue:

Get the Bride seats from Batlground. You know you want a RAUH-Welt style car. ;)

I haven't seen the Bride seats, I need to see some pics for sure. PO had an amp installed so I've already removed it. Lol
I do like the red cages with black interior, or no interior and red tub with black cage. I really like the ones that stand out like the RS series.

Forward bars can be a bad idea in a street car, the door bars may be ok just depends if you and your passenger want to climb over them. Even a minor accident they can do more harm than good though.

That's what we're speaking of, that's not for a Porsche but you get the point. That's a roll bar a cage would be the front half, not sure if you knew that but just clarifying lol.

Heheh. I don't know about the removal of the interior. I'm a sucker for original classics. A few things could be cool (IMO). Seats, a rear section cage and all would be nice. But I don't know about a street car having no insulation or carpet. I do like the idea of the original Porsche whale tail. Those are always cool on the 70s/80s 911s. Later, QD.

I like the pictures you posted for inspiration, I think I'd rather have some carpet rather than no carpet when it comes down to it though. It would be so much fun to have a 911, I find myself searching for them online from time to time.

Daily driving with no carpet is for turds. You will hate it. It's loud, it's uncomfortable and you will regret it later. Plus......even though it's all about the performance now, later on, it won't be and since you plan on keeping it forever....be smart and keep the interior in because finding one years down the road after you tossed yours out because you got tired of moving it, will suck ass.

If you want to go wild, go wild. But do it smartly. Do mods that you will want down the road, and the mods that you might not want down the road, make them easily removable.

Me personally, I would go Rhau-Welt style. Big flares, big wheels and loads of fun. That's just me though.

The no carpet part really makes a car noisey inside. I practically have to wear earplugs in my M3 from the multitude of different noises.

Yes, but if it isn't doing 100% track duties, the convenience of not having a full cage out weighs having to deal with its headaches on the street.

If it isn't going to be a daily driver, I'd definitely just remove the carpet. Yes, you'll hear everything on the road, but there's also no other feeling hearing everything. Most likely, windows are going to be down anyway.....

No carpet can look really clean. Here's a 944S2 with 968 engine conversion prepped for track by J3. A fellow named Chad got it built and it is now sold to an individual. I like the way it looks with what was removed and what stayed put. The dash remained relatively stock, but it looks right at home.

The car was intended for 50/50 duties. My spec car looks very similar, except for the full cage and dirt everywhere.

Nonsense, I drove a fully caged ITS car every day for 3 years, even in winter up north. swinging you leg over a doorbar is really not a big deal at all (unless you are fat or 6 foot9). My wifes Miata even has a 6 point cage and the car hasn't seen the track once. If you are going to do it, you might as well do it right. A 4 point cage helps you in a rollover, a 6 point helps you in all crashes (side/front) and stiffens the chassis 10 fold. A 4 point cage is like getting an A-Cup boobjob.

I have had a few and have also tested a few good bolt ins. I have yet to find someone in GA that can build a decent cage in less than 6 months, without a checking account raping. All 3 of those cars have 4130 cages, not el cheapos. Archer Racing built the Talon Cage. But when it comes to needing to do bodywork, or get at harnesses and what not, I prefer bolt-in most of the time. I put an ITS A2 16V car on the roof at Nelsons and it was fine with an Autopower.


Besides, I don't crash cars anymore....... :D

Bolt in is still legal in SCCA and ECTA..........thats what I race........

This car passed tech for 09 and will for 2010. Texas mile doesn't even require a cage.
