1. When you turn 18 and upgrade your license to Class C you get 12 points correct?

2. I got a 22 over ticket in Union City a couple of months ago and the court date is coming up next week and i finally got the money together to pay for it. Went online to pay for it and their web site said that I have to appear due to being under 21. Now with that said, I've only ever had to actually appear once and then when I got there the judge told me I didn't actually have to be there(this was a year ago in ATL, GSP nabbed me for 14 over on 400). The offense I was cited for was 22 over. So I'm just wondering if I'm actually gonna have to appear for this one since I'm supposed to be flying out of town before then.

Thanks in advance

You don't get any points for upgrading your license....

I think he's talking about point limit. If I remember correctly 20+ under 21 is something they can take your license for.

Let me clarify cause I'm looking at the ticket now.

Reckless driving is GA 40-6-390
http://www.legis.state.ga.us/legis/2003_04/gacode/40-6-390.html
Which is not what I was charged with.

I was charged under 40-6-181(19-23)
which is simply speeding.

22 over insnt reckless driving.
its 25 or over. Thats the key speed.
19-24 is 3 pts on your license, and u cant get more then 4pts in one traffic stop till your 21 or your license is suspended for 6mths, 1yr, or 2 depending on if its been suspended before. but if im not mistaken reckless driving calls for a year suspension.

You will most likely have a larger fine and then u should be fine.

you do. dont listen to these noobs. when you turn 18, if you acquire 4 or more points, they can, and usually do, yank the license. the only increase in limit is after you turn 21 and it you're allowed a maximum of 15 points without suspension (dependent on charges. ie: conviction of dui will revoke license).

also, even if you're charged with reckless driving because of excessive speed, as long as you werent weaving in and out of traffic and being a total tool, you can more than likely get it dropped because the officer was basing it off the speed alone.

if they dont charge you with reckless at the scene, they're not gonna tack it on the day of court. thats just ridiculous.

You WILL have to show up to court. So far I've gotten 3 speeding tickets being 25, 24, and 19 over(not to mention other moving violations), I have never lost my license and I'm under 21 with a class C

in the state of ga, you are allowed one continuance for whatever reason. just go prior to 10 days from your court date and request one. if i recall correctly, you have to physically go up there because you cant do it over the phone (unless you have a lawyer).

4+ points will result in a suspended license if you are under 21.

If it's your first ticket take a defensive driving course and they should reduce the fine and that will also clear the ticket and points from your record. That's what I did. My first ticket was 26 over.

Lol lucky.. yeah i was just getting ready to tell you, to talk to the solicitor in the courtroom, as he/she can work things out for you to kinda get around the original sentence... i was caught doing 23 over when i was 17 years old, and turned 18 between the time getting caught and my court date... so by that time i had gone from class D to class C license, and then talked to the solicitor... He ended up taking my ticketed speed down from 23mph over to only 20mph over. Still is bad, but at least i kept my license in the end...

shoulda gunned for 14 over. 15 over still gets you points and it goes on your record. 14 and under is no points and most of the time isnt even reported to the dmv

i had a 21mph over when i was 16 the only thing they made me do is pay $160.
