VIN-No. 100916

What makes a 356 “Outlaw”?
Bigger/Modified engine, lowered/modified suspension, non stock paint colour, non stock wheels, non stock interior, deleted bumpers. Just about anything Dr, Ferdinand Porsche didn’t put on or take off when they were built makes them an Outlaw!

This car ticks all the boxes.

The body has been stripped right back to bare metal with new floors and metal throughout as required, it has also been deseamed and finished in Martini Mica. The interior is all Black leather with Porsche 968 Clubsport seats, the headlining is custom to allow for the air induction channels to feed the oil cooler mounted on the rear fire wall inside the engine bay. The gearbox was built by the Baker Brothers in Melbourne and the motor was built by the legendary Bernie Bergmann in LA, it is a VW core Type 1 bored to 2.4 litres, not been on a dyno but believed to be around the 150 bhp.

It has a Porsche 911 shroud and cooling setup, front disc brakes with alloy drum covers, wheels are custom, tyres are Yokohama C drives, steering wheel is Moto Lita with custom built hub, fitted with Speedster headlight grills, debadged, the exhaust is stainless and very loud…..

The “Outlaw” concept is not new, in 1957 custom car builder Dean Jefferies customised a 1956 356 Carrera in this style.

A 356 Outlaw features in the movie “King of the Mountain” starring Harry Hamlin and Dennis Hopper, they race it down Mulholland Drive at night!

the motor doesn't look like much. seems pricey for about the same power as a civic. It is beautiful though.

Did you learn what a car was 3 months ago?

Cause no offense but you really don't know much at all.

(I say that because you just compared a 50 year old 356 to a Civic)

(I say that because you just compared a 50 year old 356 to a Civic)Not to mention a 90hp 356 would run laps around the 200+hp Corvette of that time and for at least a decade after. ;)

Thats the statement that went a bit too far.lolConsidering the price of a Porsche 356 brand new was $4,000, which is equivalent to about $31,000 today. In the 50's the 356 was the price of a Cadillac of the same year. ;)

A 1910 Buffalo Pitts locomotive engine made 10hp.

Craftmans will sell you a lawnmower with 10 hp.

Perhaps my comparison makes any sense at all too.

I mean, why not get a lawnmower to do a trains job?

Cause the lawnmower doesn't have the right sized chassis to fit the train tracks?

I was thinking more along the lines of John Deer needs to make locomotives.

It was a rhetorical question btw.

You mean inside the box?

I dont think so. Wouldn't inside the box thinking be 160bhp civic = 160bhp Porsche? By "OTB thinking owns me" I mean I'm not very good at using it.

Lets simplify this...

Thinking owns me.

There is a 356 in my future... sometime and somewhere but definitely there.

Though I can certainly appreciate the car posted, I'll take my 356 in near original condition.
