Ok so I will be going to Balad Air Base in Iraq next year and was curious as to what additional pay I will get while I am there.

I will be a staff sergeant (E-5) when I am there.

$150 hostile fire
no taxes
$1000+/- Housing
$250 food allowance
if youre married or have kids you also get $250 family seperation

all figures is per month

my housing allowance is $950 for hall county so I wouldnt think yours would be any lower than that for athens but i dont think it would be much more, you can google BAH rates and find out by typing in your zip code

He MAY get hostile fire. However if he's on base the whole time, he definitely will not get hostile fire pay. (At least in the Army i didn't get hostile fire pay, and there was a point we were being shot at.)

I dont touch computers, Im 11b. I just got out of the army in 2007 and they called me back in and threw me in a cav national guard unit, i get the easy money this time around, last time i was here i wasnt so lucky

it doesnt matter if you leave the wire or not, everybody that is considered to be in a combat zone gets it, even in kuwait.

I test for E-5 in january, I had to finish some testing and stuff and I did it in one UTA weekend and my 1st sert said it normally takes most people 6 months so he moved my promotion date up for me.

it affects more than just bah, you also get family sep. and it makes a difference on your taxes.

I ranked to E5 in 17 months. From Private to ranger, to ranger battalion, then SEREs POW, then Q course, then left the military.

AF has a few AFSC's that are combat oriented(TACP, CCT, PJ)..not all just sit on base. And security forces don't really count, even though on occasion they do see combat(rarely).

But yeah, from what I understand there's not a whole lot going down in Iraq anymore.

Oh ya I know AF has their elite... Ive worked with a few... I just know haji isnt one of them. Plus nothing is in Iraq... the rest of us are staging up for Afghanistan

I'm in right now Kuwait, doing my tour. I got tax free, hazard duty, hostile fire, bas, no bah since I'm still living in the dorm, no seperation either since i'm single, i also heard we get per diem but wont received that until you finish your tour.

AHHHH, yes I forgot about per diem, after you get back, you get $3.50 PER DAY that you were outside of the US. It doesnt sound like much but it really adds up. After my last deployment I got like a $3,000 check for my per diem.

my tour is only 6 months, so i should get around $600.
