Hey, I'm painting my interior all black. Everything is going to be black. Door panels, carpet, dash, head liner everything. Do you have any thoughts about how I should do this? Paint? Coats? I know about VHT. Any one else...

Any input would be greatly appreciated...

I will take pics, before/during/and after.

Thanks IA...

Subscribed to see the result lol!

Vinyl should be painted with SEM Color Coat:

The fabric should be dyed, there's plenty of places locally that sell carpet/fabric dye.

paint of dye whatever you can.. try not to be too cheap...some stuff like the headliner...and pillars and tiny things..you could always re-fabric them .get like 2 yards for 25 bucks...and it'll look and feel way better then paint..thats if you want it to look clean..and not as if someone just painted the whole interior you know?

I painted my entire interior on my truck black b/c they don't offer a black interior. I did the headliner with fabric paint from some website and used Dupi-color Vynal (sp) flat black. It worked great on everything except the door panels for some reason.

Preludes had this wierd, Half tan/half black interior. Heres what I did:

Suede Door panels (just get the fabric, use spray adhesive)

http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/118/l_695cd1094960de0fd8b1c009179df343.jpg

Suede headliner

http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/31/l_419f62ec03fa2957e8184b91265a0faf.jpg

Suede Tweeter pod (also a fiberglassed AEM Wideband)

http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/46/l_e7ee3ff842d9365703ac9059741dba75.jpg

Then heres when I redid my door sills. I'm not sure if its the "proper way" but I wet sanded with different grits, getting finer and finer. Then rubbed with alcohol to get any extra wax/dust off. Then sprayed with plastic spray paint. Its for plastic lawn chairs and what not. I sprayed it, let it get tacky, then sprayed again. Did 3 or 4 coats, checked the feel, wet sand, 2 coats, wet sand 1 coat. I did very fine coats. So if you're doing it a bit heavier, you'll do less so its not really thick.

Also Have a picture of my interior before I switched for black seats. ( I didnt paint them, just all together new.) Oh, Also painted the fiberglassed shifter surround. It has a 7" touch screen, so I basically painted it the same way i did the sills.

Actually on ALL of their used cars. I used to detail used cars coming into the lot. Dye works great for appearance but it all bleeds. I've only used SEM and RIT for some things. I kind of edged away from dyes as best I could. I would use the VHT let it dry then hit it with a dry scrub brush to get the hardness out of it. All in light coats I'd do it 3 or 4 times. Generally came out very well with minimal fading.

To each his own, but I steer clear of dye as much as I can.

I'd wrap the seats btw. Pretty easy job to do yourself with some common sense.

I used the VHT spray on a 45 y/o dash pad and it looks brand new. You can not tel it was spray dyed. I will take a pic of it tomorrow as I dont have any good pics of it on this computer.

Make sure to completely clean all panels with some strong cleaning agents. most interior plastics have years of protectants, like armor all, that dont allow the paint to stick well. use very light coats so the ridges dont get filled in. But honestly it wont look very good for long. might as well leave it if you dont have the money or do it right...

Yup. I washed the panels with soap then used wax and grease remover. Put about 4 light coats of paint. Still looks good after about 7 months.

There is a guy on a Sentra forum who has painted just about everything inside his car. Check it out, see what he used. Here is the thread
