In an effort to keep the Viper name alive after the iconic sports car is discontinued next year, Dodge has announced the introduction of the 2010 Viper SRT10 ACR-X track car, while simultaneously launching a new Dodge Viper Cup spec series.
The Viper ACR-X is a combination of the ACR street-legal but track capable machine, with the track-only Competition Coupe to come up with the ideal club racer. Unfortunately, it’s not street legal.
Under the long hood, the ACR-X retains the Viper’s 8.4-liter V10 engine, but power gets a 40-hp boost to 640-hp thanks to a less restrictive exhaust setup. Additional modifications incldue a track-tuned suspension, a curb weight that has been cut by 160 lbs and several aerodynamic enhancements. A roll cage, fuel cell and race seats complete the package for racing in the SCCA and NASA Viper Racing League. Pricing is set at $110,000.
Recently Dodge made headlines when it introduced an updated ACR model for 2010, which reclaimed the Laguna Seca track record at 1:33.915. The ACR-X was also out testing at Laguna Seca recently and bested the street time by almost three seconds.
The car will be the spec model in the new Dodge Viper Spec series that will begin in July 9th at Virginia International Raceway.

You're a moron for saying that. One step behind? Who had MORE hp and a SLOWER time around the 'Ring?Throughout history, the Corvette has been one step ahead of the Viper, up until the ACR.

Back at the Nürburgring, the hot Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/19/autoblog-first-drive-2009-corvette-zr1/) has just ripped four seconds off its claimed 7:26 lap (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/09/candd-performs-first-instrumented-testing-of-corvette-zr1/). The new time, with Jan Magnussen at the wheel, is a claimed 7:22.4 for the full 12.93-mile loop. While the number is pretty bloody fast, it is still .3 seconds off the time earned by the Dodge Viper ACR (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/27/unofficial-dodge-viper-acr-laps-ring-in-record-7-22-1-w-video/) (ouch, those three tenths really have to hurt!). We take these lap times with a grain of salt, as we've yet to see everyone on the 73-turn course under the same conditions, and with officially certified timing equipment. Again, so you don't have to Google the competition's best-claimed Ring times yourself, here they are: Porsche GT2 - 7:32, Nissan GT-R - 7:29, Corvette ZR1 - 7:22.4 and the Dodge Viper ACR - 7:22.1. Also, I'm not sure what tires they were running. If anything, Dodge is evening out the playing field, for once.;)

Negative! Please do some more research on both vehicles. Do you even know when the 1st viper was introduced? While the Corvette has had a 20-30 year head start? lol

Do you remember Team Oreca? Team GM couldn't even come CLOSE to beating this team. They finally started dominating the Viper when Team Oreca left and they bitched to LeMans about the Viper whooping their ass. Plus the Vette wasn't running a factory engine while the viper was. It was also less aerodynamic. Now GM dominates the entire class b/c Aston whooped their ass so they complained, Ferrari whooped their ass and they complained again. When they don't win, they cry like a bunch of bitches. Fucking comb-over crowd.

You should probably remove your head from your ass. Vette came out first and Viper came out afterwards. Once the viper was made it took corvette until the C5 Z06 to get something that was even comparable to the Viper, and it was still not even close. Ever since the viper has come out, the vette has been a step behind.

-Ant.agreed. there was a lot changed on the car for it to meet the specs for the track. just the ACR alone was fucking killin it on the ring. i think around 1,000lbs of downforce @ 150mph. it can hang some wicked curves.

now, with a newly tuned suspension and surprisingly, the aerodynamics have been changed to allow even more downforce, this car is gonna be a beast. it should do really well.

if you haven't seen it, i found a vid.

-Ant.I did some research and found that the Viper in fact was quicker around the track. I know I have read on more than one occasion where the testers were complaining about the Viper being more expensive, heavier, harder to drive and slower than it's cheaper counterpart, but I am unable to find the article. IIRC, it was the C6Z06 VS the 500hp Viper. The testers were saying that the Vette was the quicker of the two, but the 600hp Viper would be able to hold it's own once it arrived. The only facts I have are that the Vette is lighter and cheaper than the Viper. Not sure about the ZR1 price compared to the ACR or the ACR-X. If I'm not mistaking, the ZR1s were going for a little bit more than the supposed $110,000 price tag of the ACR-X.:dunno:

The ZR1 is 120K and still SLOWER around the track with MORE hp.

Looks pretty sweet. Vipers are just sexy ass cars all around.i am a fan of the ACR. the new design of the X model, just makes it even better. the motor was not messed with, just the entire exhaust system. its not a huge amount of hp gain over the normal ACR, but it isn't gonna take much to wipe the competition out. most of the designing was the suspension and aero's. IMO, if this car is used for other races, like the ALMS, then i would see people bitch like they did when Team Oreca was around.

like Ant said once, Team Oreca was fucking everyone up with the Viper. they had series where out of 18 starts, they finished 16 of them in 1st.

Lol.

So, i guess you can't admit when you've been told.

Give me the definition of what you consider a record then why don't cha.

Btw. Audi broke every record imaginable during the Quattro era.

In 1997, they won 75% of the touring car championships round the world with the A4.

Frank Biela was famous for saying, "The added weight penalties just let the car dig in better of the line."

He's too thick to read.

Anyone that opposes what he says is wrong.

I just put him where he belongs as he has no chance of knowing more about motor sport records and dynasties than me. (I'm not saying that to be cocky, I'm saying that because i just gave him a valid list and all he could do was skim through it like its not even there. I was at least hoping he'd dissect it a bit to educate himself and give me some counter arguments but......nope.)
