Check the site sponsors. They are here for a reason and it's great to support the people that support this site. Later, QD.

Hit up American Radio, I am sure they can for you. Bangin' Jimmy (IA Member) also builds boxes.

WOW, a "custom" shop couldnt build a sub box for a W&???building a box for a w7 is the same as any sub beside it not being a standard 12" sub cut out

I can build one the week after xmas. Let me know what you are looking for though. Sealed or ported? If ported, what freq do you want?

If you are actually in Macon, then I think Audio Zoo would be a good place to go.
If you are in the Atlanta area, there are several good shops abound town.

I DO suggest American Radio though, as Scott and I do great work. :)

dude u can probably build one yourself if u really wanted too. i did and my sub sounds great. there are alot of walkthroughs floating around the internet for building the box that explain all of the necessary aspects of building one. i just used 3/4 inch plywood, wood screws, wood glue, and some caulk to seal it and make it airtight. let me know if you want any more info

fail

I saw that too but I figured I would allow him to continue thinking it sounded so good in that high quality box. I cant bring myself to call it an enclosure.

Haw, he is not joking. I have used 100% glue on boxes before if the wood lines up perfectly and I have the time to wait and let it set.

I am actually building a 7.5 cuft box this currently and am 50% done and have not used a single screw. 2 RE HC 15s if anyone here is old enough to know what those are lols.....

Any stereo shop with a compass and a jigsaw can make a box for a w7. Nothing special except for the way they mount. Just make sure they double wall the box and know how to do it.

screws arent needed to build a box. if your cuts are correct and accurate and your using the correct would glue and using clamps you shouldnt run into any problems. once the glue chemically bonds with the wood your ok.

You go build a regular box with only wood glue and drop a W7 in it. Then let us know how that turns out:goodjob:. Yes you can build a box and make it hold together with just glue, however it will come apart over time with no reinforcement. Especially with the weight and pressure levels of a W7 in it. Why would you not take the extra few minutes to screw it together anyways?

Actualy the box i have my 10w7 in right now in my TL that i built over a year ago i used no screws in and it doesnt leak and never will leak. Screws are just good for setting the wood, once the glue is set there not needed. unless your running a huge enclosure with mulitple subs that need alor of internal bracing then "maybe" but to say a enclosure isnt built correctly because screws arent used is crazy. Ive never seen screw on a Virtual technologies box........

If it is working for you then that is great. I have had many people over the years bring their cars to me where they tried to build their boxes with just wood glue and every one sounded awful, leaked, and or fell apart, wanting it rebuilt. Like I said I would never recommend it, but if it is working for you then :goodjob:. Plus even for it to work it would take a shop with a very experienced woodworker with the tools for perfect joints, which most have neither. Also proper box for a W7 should have thicker walls than normal and internal bracing.

A box is a box. The W7 is not some woofer with the force of god or anything. Just a SQ sub that has a tasty low end and gets a lil loud.

Titebond III, once dry, isactually stronger than MDF, so why is there a need for screws? Maybe if you're building a box out of fawking titanium lol.....

TSiFTW, your statement is FTL.

I'm just saying that why not spend the extra few minutes to reinforce it. Sheesh. LOL. BTW my info on the box wall thickness came straight from JL when these first came out:goodjob:Thanks

A box is a box.

BTW. A box is NOT a box. A properly built enclosure is NOT just a box. If a box was just a box then any pre fab box would be ideal for any sub. You're statement is FTL.

i can agree there alot of badly build boxes and badly tuned boxes running around atlanta. When i got into car audio years ago i lived by screws because when i started building boxed my cuts weren't that great on the table saw and screws make it easy and faster(being honest and humble) With time i got better and my cuts got better learned how to use the tools correctly and having a dad in carpentry work and construction helps too. most of my joins on my boxes are done on cnc or a routers which helps but i see your point.

What I meant by that, is that I take all the same procedures when building a box, wether it is for a W7, XXX, Type R, L7.

W7 takes a MDF box. Box, enclosure, same thing.

I screw boxes together when I dont have the time to clamp them together and let them dry while assembling. It is mostly just a method of making sure the glue bond is 100%

All the kids that come to me with blown up boxes are just because they used screw, and no wood glue at all.

I get all my wood CNC cut so you can take a day just setting it up with glue and letting it dry. If you're not in a rush it works I guess.

I am about to build a box for the W7's main rival back in the day actually:

http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x258/kevinamayne/DSC02694.jpg

My newly built 05' RE XXX, 18''s of it lols.

Box will be straight glue. Ch@dbee's box he has for sale was glued together only.

Kevin

Now you guys are finally stating the point I made earlier. Most shops do not have pro cabinet builder or the tools or know how to make perfect cuts. So it would be a bad idea to use wood glue only.

I used mostly glue on the boxes I built for the XXX's back in 04. I think I had about 15 screws in the entire box(just over 12cu outside) and that was just so I could move it around as the glue dried. On a few of the boxes I built I pulled all of the screws out and filled the holes to make them easier to smooth and paint.

BTW, I used liquid nails and elmers wood glue and had zero problems for over a year.

I use both glue and screws. All the boxes I've built have been bullet proof.!
