Oil pan gasket issues

ok i have ek with ls/vtec. my oil pan was leaking so i pulled it and tried rtv which is what one of my buddies recommended. should i use gasket or just rtv and i dont have a torque wrench so how tight? and if i can get torque wrench what is ft/lbs?

8.7 ft/lbs which is 104.4in/lbs. (thank you honda-tech) you will need an in/lbs torque wrench

p.s. use honda bond

replace the gasket stop doing shit half ass

make sure you get the metal washers off the block and old silicone off... I wouldnt use a torque wrench just snug them on. then once you are done, you can always go back and re tighten if needed. But if you over tighten and break them you are screwed

hahah def the wrong idea on rtv...

i would only snug them maybe a quarter of a turn after you feel resistance, too much can cause it to leak, may cause the gasket not to fit snug.

should jus do it the right way and torque them down.

and piston rings goin out...

use the grey rtv.....on a new pan gasket......

use oem gaskets.. they seem to almost never leak... and there is another place to get the best sealer... its the mack truck dealership! they make a sealer that is rediculous..... u can put that shit on the gasket covered in shit and it will still seal..its the shit.. if your still having leaking problems doing what ase*tech said then try it.. and dont smear a whole tube of grey silicone on the pan and another tube on the block. u dont need alot.. in the corners and where surfaces meet does it just fine.. use honda gaskets!!! ive put prolly over 50 oil pan gaskets on and i dont have any problems

I replaced my leaky oil pan gasket with a Fel-Pro after scraping off all the old material and wiping it clean, tightening all the bolts in a criss-cross pattern but NO gasket bond (I was told not to) and well it still leaks but not as bad.

I blame it on the non-OEM gasket and not because I didn't use any bond.

well u are right the felpro gaskets are garbage for the honda oil pans... not worth the couple bucks u save from buyin oe.... its 20-25 bucks for oe dont cheap out

I have used these gaskets more then I can count with never one issue or come back.... guess its the person installing it .:thinking:

^hell ya the orange valve cover gaskets are SHITTY, you put on on, if you ever take the VC off they are stretched and cant re-use them

(USE Honda bond). Criss cross pattern hand tight then just snug em down with a 18v drill. I was a Honda tech and did these all day. Works every time makw sure it's clean as HELL!!! Good luck.
