01 LS Teg Fuel/Spark Probs Please Help

My roommate has a 01 LS Teg. All of a sudden it died, and was a bitch to crank. It'll only start at WOT and it'll only stay running if you hold the gas. We took his AEM fuel press reg off and noticed the diaphram was torn. He got a new one today and it ran fine for about 10 mins and it's doing the same thing again. Also, while it's trying to run, the exhaust is getting so hot, it's melting the undercoating. We thought it might be a clogged cat. converter so we took it out and it didn't help. Any advice would be appreciated. It sounds like it's either a fuel or spark prob. He also has a MSD SCI and a Blaster coil if that helps. The plugs are firing though.
