Garmin has been around for a long time. You want a GPS system that use NAVTEQ for their mapping data. Garmin uses NAVTEQ while TomTom uses Tele Atlas. Generally speaking NAVTEQ has more current mapping data in the United States. NAVTEQ is a US based company while Tele Atlase is based out of Europe. Also Tele Atlas seems to be less accurate that NAVTEQ.

Get a Garmin santana cause its harder to keep map updates for a tom tom or any thing else. I just bought my fiance a Garmin off ebay brand new $70

I bought my wife and I each a Tom-Tom earlier this year and we love them. Tom-Tom is my choice. Later, QD.

Either way is good.
ive found that people who have gotten tom toms before will normally always buy tom tom now. those who had garmins will always get garmin.

For new buyers it depends on what their friend or family has.

As for difference. the Tom Tom Interface is actually a bit easier to use, less hits to get to places, but the garmin technology is a bit better. But in the end you will not notice that difference in technology.

In the end, the best unit to get is the one u can find the best deal on. Models with built in FM traffic are amazing just fyi.

I have seen both and you will notice the screen is better laid out on the Garmin. It just feels more open on the Garmin than the Tom Tom. Used both , but go to the store and you'll see what i mean....

i got a garmin last week and i like it so far, reading reviews on bestbuy.com and other sites in general garmin was liked more for easy use and maps but tom tom had more extra features that arent really needed

I have the navigator on my ATT Impression and i was not impressed....phone is great vs my old one by far. Navi is clunky, slow, touch is imprecise on some parts, unresponsive at times. Funny how the Samsung Impression just came out this year and yet the Navi software/interface sux arse. Def. gonna have to go through many revisions to get it right for consumers. Canceling that junk for sure.... Garmin FTW.
