View Full Version : WTF improper U turn citation?

About 3 months ago I got pulled over for doing a U turn. I was on lawrenceville hwy looking for pleasant hill, not knowing the area very well i pass pleasant hill and bust the next U turn. I didn't see any no U turn sign, it was 2 in the morning so there was little to no cars around, I even waited for cars to pass by and everything was clear, and no signs of cops.

I bust the U turn and as soon as I do it I see blue lights, I pull onto pleasant hill the nearest lit parking lot. They check my license and everything and hand me the citation for an improper U turn. I asked her how the U turn was improper and didn't really get a straight answer.

Called the number on the back today and its $140 and I have a court date for tomorrow morning.

Now this sounds like bullshit to me, improper u turn? its one thing if it was ILLEGAL but improper? how the fuck do you do an improper u turn? I was not under influences that night btw,

So long story short I want to go to court tomorrow and see if i can get this case dropped and woundered if anyone has any good ideas on how to do so

you woundered if anyone has good ideas? Improper means illegal. Just like IMPROPER LANE CHANGE. not using a blinker. It's just a different way of saying it. You can certainly go to court and maybe get a reduced fine, or just pay court cost MAYBE, but probably not. best not to waste time, pay the ticket and move on.

Have you thought about going back to that spot and checking to see if there was a "NO U-TURN" sign or marking?

You should of took pics of the place you made the u-turn as soon as you got done talking with the officer.

You should of took pics of the place you made the u-turn as soon as you got done talking with the officer.

eh that would of been a good idea, was a little mad and just wanted to get home that night

eh might as well go to court tomorrow and see what i can do I mean I can't make it any worse

OP - are you a dork? GO back up there and see if there is a no u-turn sign. Sheesh. ALSO make sure that it's reflective (can be seen at night) and is within a reasonable distance to the spot you turned. You don't go to court to "fight" a ticket w/out doing YOUR part to "fight" the ticket. If you'r enot gonan do your part then just pay the bitch.

agreed, but at the time you get a ticket you are angry and not thinking about getting proof to fight the ticket.

go to the stop and take pictures of the intersection and 50-100 yards before the intersection proving there was no u-turn sign. if there wasn't one, you should be let off the hook.

If he was wrongfully sited, there is no fine to pay. The problem here is the OP doesn't want to go make sure if he was in the right or wrong. Later, QD.

But what if he wasn't wrong, what if he can prove it.. I don't agree with asking advice from IA, however he can go back to the spot and see if there really wasn't a sign or if there was one and he just didn't see it. It always helps to check. If he was wrong then I agree stop complaining and pay up.

I took the hub caps off originally because the person who had the car before me really messed them up and they were gross. I am getting rims and lowering my car in March. It is a work in progress. Don't rush me! You aren't paying for it so shush!

I agree with the others in this thread. If you really think you were wrongfully cited, go back and take pictures of the spot. Take lots of them. Then when you get into court ask to speak to the solicitor and show him everything. Ask him how it was "improper"

they are nice, however when someone takes silver spray paint that doesnt even match and goes in acomplete circle around the hub cap to cover up i guess the color or rust on the steelie and the paint has dripped it looks like shit and also they were all scratched up and bent up. Whoever had it before me put them through hell. I like the steelies better right now!
