if they forged and you take them to a place that doesnt know what they are doing and they heat them too much in the powercoating process then they become weak and can crack
i did alot of research into that when i was going to get my factory ray's wheels powdercoated that were on my Z. you need to take them to place that has experience with forged wheels, then you will be ok.

from the pictures, those wheels look to have a pretty normal/stock offset. knockoff wheels generally dont use crazy offsets unless you specifically order them that way (IF the manufacturer even gives the option, which most of them dont) ... the higher the number, the closer to "stock" you get.
if you dont want to eat tires, you need to either raise your car up, or get a camber kit and bring your camber back out - which when you do this, you'll find if you're too low, your tires will actually be hitting the fender. to have a really low car, you HAVE to run negative camber to be able to fit your tires inside of your fender.... which you were just talking about going lower, which is going to eat more tire.
just sayin.

however, in this case, the wheels that were on the red mazda = NOT crazy offset.

Your wheels are super exaggerated . Changing the offset just a few mm can cause over a degree of camber change= wearing tires out

yes because if i remember correctly...the offset of these wheels was 10mm-15mm more than stock which can lead to......... : )and if u looked at the my car from behind..(like the comments i got all the time) my camber was OFF!!! i bowed out.

it will cause wear, period. The argument wasnt about how bad or how slow. How do you know she didnt have 20k miles on those tires?
Youre wrong, you HAD -3 camber, then the alignment brought it back to 0 or close to it, which is why you had no tire wear. THERE IS NO WAY YOU HAD -3 NEGATIVE CAMBER and DIDNT WEAR TIRES OUT. An alignment brings the car as close to even (0) as possible, thats the whole point for it.
Thats absurd.
If she gets a bigger offset she will have to roll her fenders, or increase the negative camber. either one will eat tires

LOL. if i could adjust my camber to 0 with an alignment, what would be the point of a camber kit? ....... there is almost no adjustment for camber on a civic.
so you're saying that because i have negative camber on my del sol, that when i get it aligned, my camber is going to suddenly dissapear and my tires are going to bow out and i'm going to look like a frog driving down the road?

You do know what NEGATIVE camber means right?
If you lower your car lets say 2inches and you have -3 Camber, no going to get an aligmnment DOESNT FIX THAT if you dont have adjustable ball joints.
So if you lower your car on the ground with NO "CAMBER KIT" and alignment does you JACK SHIT, NOTHING. -3 camber before you go in, -3 after. You might be able to adjust the TOE with the tie rods, thats it.
You have adjustable camber kit, then you bring that -3 back to 0 with the adjustable ball joint.
What im saying is, you said eating tires is all about the alignment, i said that an alignment doesnt mean SHIT without adjusting the camber.
Make sense?
CLIFFS:
LOWER YOUR CAR , GET NEGATIVE CAMBER
ALIGNMENT WONT FIX NEGATIVE CAMBER WITHOUT ADJUSTABLE BALL JOINTS

Wait. But you just said that i HAD -3, and I went to get an alignment and suddenly had 0 camber, and that's why I didn't go through tires. But you can't adjust camber without adjustable ball joints? So exactly HOW did I not go through tires if I still had camber if camber is the only culprit??
Lowering a car doesnt just affect camber. It affects toe as well, which wears tires MUCH quicker than camber does.

Most people don't realize that when they lower their car, they're not only fucking with camber, but they're also fucking with toe -- which eats the shit out of tires.
I'm willing to bet that old girl up there didn't get an alignment once she installed her suspension and wheels to get the toe in check, which wore the tires EVEN faster than if she would have had negative camber alone.

Ok correct me here if I'm misunderstanding
You had -3 negative camber
you got an alignment
you didn't wear tires out
is that what you are saying? Any car with -3 negative camber is going to eat tires sorry. All you did was adjust your toe which is fine but camber gives you uneven wear as well

yes mike - my exhaust picked up reflectors on 75. when i got rid of the car, it had MINIMAL amount of camber wear on the front -- rear still looked brand new. wasnt until i put the wheels/tires on the del sol that i noticed it eating tires. but this car is an alignment nightmare ... i think i've got a bent control arm or something.

Toe is what eats up tires, not camber.
Anyways, to answer Erika's question, go with BBS RGR's. Don't support the replica companies like 99.8% of IA does. Have you looked on Craigslist for a used set? You can often find a set in mint condition for a fraction of the cost.

Camber wears tires unevenly
toe wears tires unevenly
toe can do it worse because it can create more friction, but camber is the #1 problem
you can adjust TOE with factory components you canny adjust camber without aftermarket sliding or adjustable ball joints
1st - not all cars take kindly to neg camber, and not all cars can have their alignment corrected and not run thru tires.
mazda 3's have wide hips..and look great with nice wide wheels/tires. and i highly doubt that ms. oreo wants to flush out the 3.
with your 1k budget, and you needing tires.. unless you find a used set..id suggest:

okay so i have a gut feeling this body shop is full of MORONS. they told me today to find a set of wheels at $1,000 so they can buy them to put on the car to move it into the shop to put it on the lift to find out mechanical damages. so basically, theyre gonna order the wheels (they already ordered a new set of tires for me) and THEN put it on the lift.. and it could still be a possible total depending on the sitaution of everything else. jeeze.

u have your stock wheels? can u give them to them, and get your 1000$ wheel money, and take your time, and shop on your own?

u better borrow some or something.. so they can get started, and you wont get rushed into buying wheels you dont want.

How do they know what size to get, especially if the wheel is larger than stock. Do they even have a tire mounter and balancer?

Toe is what eats up tires, not camber.
Anyways, to answer Erika's question, go with BBS RGR's. Don't support the replica companies like 99.8% of IA does. Have you looked on Craigslist for a used set? You can often find a set in mint condition for a fraction of the cost.If someone isn't intelligent enough to get a design patent on their wheel then what does it matter? You know all wheel manufacturers have plenty of lawyers...all they need is a power of attorney signature and a couple hundred to file and they have a permanent patent on the look of any wheel they produce. Automotive manufacturers do it on nearly all their OEM wheels.

1. look at the tire size 225/40/18.
2. they called ME and said we wont look at mechanical shit till u get wheels so we can then put it on a lift.. (weird.) they went back on their original word of we will cut u a check and go shopping...now they are like we will get u some 129 dollar rims that look like what u have. long debate today...but im gonna win. : P and yes the body shop has a tire "area." but why would that matter? i could go two seconds down the street and get some wheels and tires mounted and balanced.

18s hmm you might get lucky and not have to roll em, but you might scrap the front fenders, if that happens you need to roll em.

Thought you said they already bought the tires. Are they going to pay for 19's when you had 18's on before?

im not gonna do 19s. these offsets vary from 42-48mm which is what i was running with before. and state farm is only paying for 25% of two tires.

19's would be big on the 3.. and you would need to lower the car to make it look nice, or get a kit. The 3 has big arches, and looks like a fat pig.. i think 19's could be pulled off. but i dont think u want to go thru that hassle!
and i like these!

The first ones resemble the looks of the Mazdaspeed wheels from about 10-ft back. To me, it's the cleaner looking wheel of the two and black faced wheels have been played out.
