Valentino Rossi will race in the Vallelunga Six Hours this weekend in a GT3-class Ferrari 430 run by Kessel Motorsport.

The seven-times MotoGP champion will share the car, which will carry his traditional number 46, with his best friend Alessio 'Uccio' Salucci and GT veteran Andrea Ceccato.

Rossi tested the car, which is entered in the Gold Cup class for GT cars, at Mugello on Wednesday, completing 20 laps.

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo told Gazzetta dello Sport: "Rossi is very motivated. I hope he wins, because I want a Ferrari to win, and particularly one driven by him."

Red Bull F1's chief technical officer Adrian Newey will also compete in the event, driving a BMW M3 in the Silver Cup class.

Adrian is a frequent racer of classic cars. In the 2009 Goodwood Revival, he and Bobby Rahal drove and XKE Light weight to a class win.
