On the early show this morning, they had a segment about popcorn at the movies. Movie theaters use coconut oil to pop their popcorn which is supposedly 5x worse than lard. A combo at Regal Movie Theaters consisting of a medium popcorn and a medium soda amounts to 1,610 calories and 60g of fat...3 days worth of saturated fat.

1,610 calories is the equivalent of:

"six scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese, four bacon strips, and four sausage links"

or

36 strips of bacon and 8 pats of butter

or

3 quarter pounders and 12 pats of butter.

and thats without the self serve butter added in.

when you put the butter in, every pump is 120 calories. (if you watch the video, listen to the dudes laugh when she says that, lmao :lmfao:)

I really dont think it's 1600 calories. I used to eat that alot and it never effected me lol and I never felt bloated after that. If I eat alot I can usually tell when im full and that many calories would make you feel like a stuffed turkey.

If they are citing the coconut oil as the problem then the article is useless. You cannot simply judge it on the amount of saturated fat. it's the forms of saturated fat and the very low percentage of unsaturated fat that tells the real story. Coconut oil is one of the healthiest means of cooking in fat. Coconut is one of the most nutritious foods in the world. Coconut water is a natural isotonic beverage. Think nature's version of Gatorade without all the sugar and artificial colors.

although that site was nice, i dont see anything about consuming a 60g+ serving size of saturated fat, whether it be hdl or ldl, lol.

^I'm just trying to figure out where it all is coming from. They mentioned the coconut oil and then compared it with canola oil from other theaters. When most people read the article they are going to think that the coconut oil is the culprit. I think it has more to do with the trans fat filled fake butter stuff they pour all over it combined with that large soda.

Q4T, nothing made at home ever lives up to actual movie theater popcorn.
