Wouldn't the water evaporate because the moon has no atmosphere? Like water boils at 50 degrees fahrenheit on Mars because atmospheric pressure is so low? You would think that h2o in a vacuum would turn to vapor almost instantly.

meh, that's why it's better not to think, and just let them tell you what truth is best for you to believe at this time. Haha, I don't blame nasa though. I mean this "discovery" will come to be handy information when it comes time to renew their dwindling budget.

^ The point I believe most would try to make is answering how it got there, why is it there, how did we miss it, and could we use this to our advantage.

How what got there? The water? Come on, dude. There's no water, no moon landing site, no nothing. The moon is made up of cheese.

I don't bother wasting my time reading the article. I read the thread title and posted. Though I was right. There are no lakes or oceans on the moon :D With this new "discovery" next they're probably going to announce the discovery of some abandoned ruins or lunar bases. oOooOOohhh, can't wait!!

To quickly answer these ...

The shadowed craters of the moon are some of the coldest places on earth (they don't receive direct sunlight) at negative 360 degrees. Article states that ice could remain for billions of years. They also state that most of the water found on this mission was beneath the surface and in both vapor and ice form.

How it got there is probably the same story as how it got here. Most believe we have water due to collisions with Comets and Asteroids. A quick glance at the moon shows it's had it's fair share of run ins with space rocks.

No science geeks on IA? Ghey, this is why I don't bother posting up shit like this around this mothafucka. Idiotfucks don't know jackshit about it. All they care about is what kind of cold air intake could increase their horsepower by 4 instead of 3, and how to get rid of their check engine light.

Since like 3rd grade. I always wanted to be an astronaut.
That's why I would always pass my science classes with A's. I sucked at everything else though haha. I fucking love astronomy.

This is old news but still neat. There is a scientist that worked w/ NASA and on this project that has dibs w/ other scientists on finding the water on the moon... he got arrested for leaking out this info to foreign countries for some mula lol. He's getting some time in jail/prison.

I'd personally like to see a space elevator built. A lunar base is nice and all, but until we have a cheaper more permanent way to get to space the costs are going to continue to be high.

I thought the tin foil hat crowd was saying that the whole "crashing a satellite into the moon to look for water" deal was some sort of attack on an alien base or something?

Anyway, now that we know theres water on the moon, Obama can start building those FEMA concentration colonies there that they will send you to after they make you get the swine flu vaccine and take away your copenhagen and guns.

In addition, popular NASA and space researcher, Richard Hoagland, has publicly come forward to reveal that the October 9, LCROSS ‘bombing’ mission of the moon, discovered an ancient base at the moon’s South Pole. Reviewing the scientific data achieved by NASA’s LCROSS mission, Hoagland concluded, also on the popular late night Coast to Coast AM radio show, that “LCROSS is part of a carefully constructed campaign to prepare the populace for imminent disclosure. The President of the United States will soon announce that scientists have discovered ruins on the moon, he added. Nobody saw the LCROSS debris plume because the probes struck a building which swallowed the effects of the explosion.”

I'm just ready to bang a green alien chick already, and no, I'm not talking about an illegal alien (mexican) chick.
