Chris @ Esmeril has an RX-8 running at 490hp and 330ish ft lbs. And that's on a built Renesis. There are 3 rotors and 13b's putting out high torque as well. When put in a light car with a low center of gravity and 50/50 weight distribution, rotaries can perform admirably in racing conditions.
They also make pretty good dragcars...

3.don't be a douche
I made a "To Do" list for you. I am rotary guy, but I am not the kind that bashes other, or is close minded. I am wiling to bet you haven't driven a rotary powered car, they put power down differently, and are quite nice IN THEIR OWN WAY. Why in fanboy-esque debates to people feel the need to hate the side their not on?
-Owning a Playstation does not mean you have to hate X-boxes
-Owning a Mac doesn't mean you have to hate windows
-Owning a Piston powered car doesn't mean you have to hate rotaries
-etc. & vice versa for all of the above
Why is there always a group of retards in any category that thinks you can't like both, or if you dislike one, why you would have to hate it? It's so stupid.

Sweet all things that can be accomplished with a piston engine. 490hp and 330ftlbs isnt even good when you compare it to honda much less and evo or sti motor. I would take a 3 rotor out of one of the old Kudzu cars but other than that you can keep that garbage

I'd say almost 500hp is pretty good out of a 1.3L motor. Especially in race classes restricted by displacement right? it's hard to find a lighter engine with that much of a usable power band

1. Most of the reason I hate rotarys is there fanboy club and how fanatical all you people are about them. They aren't the greatest thing since sliced bread, at best they are a cool car culture novelty.
2. I've driven a lot and I do mean a lot of Rotary powered cars on track, everything from Caterhamesque replicas to 3rd Gen RX7s, all nice cars and well balanced but Ill take an RX7 with an LS1 anyday of the week, and don't waste my time with the "it thows off the balance" remark....because it doesn't.
3. It was a simple statement if you don't like it...I don't care
4. I don't hate rotaries....I mostly just hate the owners
5. If you are looking to go toe to toe with someone and challenge them with your vastly superior car knowledge you better pick someone else.

Name a race class that has a displacement limit and doesn't have an air inlet restrictor.
I really hate the displacement arguement who really cares if its 1.3 liters.
Its light and thats about the only thing good I really have to say about it.

The 1.3L is a bit of a misnomer actually when compared to a standard internal combustion engine. Each rotor face has a displacement of .65L per rotation x 2 rotors = 1.3L per rotation. Now take your .65, and multiple by 6 faces = 3.9L. so by the same way a piston engine is calculated the 13b would actually be a 3.9L engine.

Way to be a hyppocrite yourself and act like an ass because you think rotary owners are asses. You just come off as an ignorant douche, now I just realize youre a regular plain douche who does it on purpose cause you dislike the crowd.
I know LS1 7s perform amazingly and remain balanced. I am the Rx-7 owner you don't expect because I'm not a fucking retard like a vast majority of them. So don't bash the entire community like a jackass, there is a good group of people out there that aren't "in your face" rotary, I am one of them, so do guys like us a favor and cut the bullshit when you recognize it's there yourself, why give into a system that you dislike. The whole fight fire with fire mentality is stupid, all you'll do is burn down the house faster. fight fire with water, and be calm, and respectable, that way you don't look like the ass you just made yourself to be.I know the rotaries shortcommings and limits I do still like them, am I going to go around trying to convert people like I am a rotary Jahova's witness? no. Am I going to glorify their name as the engine to end all engine's? no. Am I going to pretend that there aren't better engines out there? Definitely not. Will I polish their public image up a hair and show how much I love them, well to an extent yes, but can you blame someone from praising what they own just a little bit?
In reguarding vastly superior car knowledge, I do not have that. I know what I know, and speak not on what I don't know, same as any other person, I don't know where you took me for someone who thinks they know more about cars as a whole than you.
Im not here to debate...but i am here to say i have a new appreciation for rotaries..and cant wait till i am able to get one.

Interesting... I need to do some more homework maybe. I do stand by my statement that light is good, and so that is one thing rotaries do have over their similar piston powered counterparts.

If you had the rotating assembly balanced out better than the factory does(factory balances the rotors with the counterweights in the flywheel like a wheel on a car, but the front and rear rotors and their respected counterweights aren't balanced for each other across the length of the eccentric shaft, and little things like the mass of the seals and such aren't taken into consideration, it's still good enough for the Rx-8 to hit 9k, but not 11k and up), and ran hardened stationary gears, as long as you could feed it oil and gasoline and cool it down it would keep revving yes. Ceramic seals that wear/weigh less and produce less friction would help too.

Lol, the point was that the power and torque were balanced and it makes a lot of the torque before 7500 rpms unlike a honda. Like a piston engine that has good bore/stroke ratio. Thats what I ment. No one is going to tremble in fear of 250hp.

Most race car driver/owners don't turn the wrenches themselves.
Downing is the #1 reason Mazda was successful in IMSA racing and it wasn't because he knew how to fix the motor but because he could bring a team together that could. Plus build the chassis, find sponcorship, and drive the car too.
You think Penske, Ginassi, Childress or anyone else worth a damn doesn't use an engine specialist?

I love rotaries myself, especially at the track, a 400whp rotary is a FAST car, a 400whp V8 isn't as fast. They do put power down differently, I know a LOT of rotary road race guys, all real cool guys and all definitely not rotary fan boys.

You know whats amazing to drive....even better than a rotary I mean....a twin turbo LS1...thats amazing both valid points
THANK YOU! someone else understands this.
I drove a Turbo2 FC once. Eh, the thing I liked the most of it was popping flames. That was about it.
popping flames is fun, no doubt!

so pretty much as long as you could get the engine balanced out good enough and get the proper cooling then it could pretty much rev to the moon?(exaggeration, yes, but i think you get what i'm saying.)
well you'd eventually reach a point where the flywheel and clutch wouldn't be able to take the stress of rotating and they'd shatter, but yes. There is a 3 rotor FC on youtube with a redline of 16K RPM. It's called the MPS Rx-7.

Great motors, i haven't played much with mine since i am planning to keep car to as close to factory condition, but i do plan on getting another one to play with. Some think Rotaries are freaking awesome motors, some think garbage, but same can be said about other motors. Some hate Subaru motors just for the fact it's more dollar per hp compared to evo...does it make it a bad motor? Some hate honda's for no TQ, bad motor? All motors have pro's and cons.
3 rotor, na, built, game over...even better 4 rotor.

Rotaries suck..
I would NEVER own one.
Or two...
Or three...
Oh wai...
>_>
I owned one for a while (5 years) and honestly it was fun but nothing to brag about. But Big Baller, the LS1 comment is pretty unintelligent, not because it's wrong but because that statement could be said about ANY car (except for F-bodys and vettes)
