they may have just been over tightened to the point if a pothole was hit the lugs snap. I had a car that just one dy i looked at the wheel and a lug was broken.... then when it came to change the wheels another one broke taking them off.... (the shop is at fault)

over tightened at the shop with an air impact, or they left them loose. You most likely would have noticed if they were loose in time to pull over though...

Put on with an impact and overtightened...they won't claim responsibility because all they have to say is the car was fine when it left. I think anyone that "torques" lug nuts with an impact (which they always claim is precisely calibrated) should be liable for any and all damage to studs.
Studs simply WILL NOT break unless they have been overtightened, if they are loose you will feel the vibration of the wheel wobbling way before anything happens to the studs.

Most tire shops use torque sticks, Should have video of workers (if a decent shop) I'd find out, get a lawyer and get the tape....case done.

Did they remove any other wheels or just the one where the work was done? You could check the torque of another one to confirm.
I hate how many techs just hit the nuts with a 1/2 inch impact and call it a day. A lot of these guns produce up to 400ft lbs in just a few seconds. This is called a wheel-off. The tech should be fired and all repairs should be performed free of charge.
Lol @ this thread... You guys have no idea...

that shit still makes me laff...Yep some people have no concept of how threads work.
The center locking wheels on the street crack me up too. The threads are opposite from left to right and they take like 400 lbs of torque...then should always have a pin or safety wire. There's numerous accounts of wheels like daytons getting lost due to the hub being installed backwards.

buddy of mine is a master tech at Toyota...I was using his Matco impact
to tighten lugs he said and i qoute "make sure you turn down the the level/pressure
on the gun, if not we'll br replacing luggs"

the lugs streched past yeild then the impact loading of bumps and small vibrations
Matco Impacts are super strong like what 600ft/lbs....if you hit that onto the lugs that will do some damage.
A friend blamed me once when 2 of his wheels came off at the strip. His lugs were stripped and we went to look for some new ones, we got 10 new ones and I installed them by Hand then I told him to check which he did and the wheels came off and that mofo blamed me when he torqued it down. He was a 6'3" black guy at about 300lbs and I'm like a chop stick....lol

Anyone that puts lug nuts on with an impact has less brain cells than the lug nuts themselves.find 1 shop thats making money in america that there tech or mechs dont do it. ive worked in 4 shops each 1 hit it with an impact and ride. time is money.
edit: unless it was a shop that only dealt with 1 brand of manufacture. i wont lie ive broke crank pully bolt with my ti ir.
