View Full Version : wrecked the Z06 on the way home from work yesterday!!!

So I was on my way home not a half mile from the house and I hydroplaned. The ass end came around and lead the front end into the grass. I slid at 40mph nearly 300ft in the grass until I ran into an embankment. 40-0 in less than a second. MY back is a little sore today and im still kinda shaken up. It sucks and im pretty upset about it. My buddy is on his way up here right now and we are towing it to Magnum to see what the deal is. Its a rough sight but pretty minor cosmetically. The only thing that worries me is the roughly 3" of wheel gap on both sides of the front when I was slammed before the incident. Shocks are clearly busted, I some how lost a ballast to one of the HIDs, half of the intake was laying on the ground. Rear leaf spring was on the ground, one of the iforged is kinda trashed, doesnt seem its bent but will need repainting and polishing the lip, it cut a bunch of wires under there and pushed the radiator back... we shall see what happens I guess my biggest fear is that State Farm will not fix the aftermarket stuff. Like if my headers are messed up or the missing HID ballast, wheels stuff ect... All in all im very fortunate nobody else was involved and worse yet that I didnt slide into oncomming traffic. I guess it was just my day.

probably the new wheels. all that rubber on the ground can cause an easy hydroplane if too much foot is put the floor. or bald tires.

well, if the tires in the back were rediculously wide (12" or so, not many people would buy iForged wheels and NOT go wide) - and almost needing replacing - then i'll believe every word of it.

40mph was probably just the impact speed (note he said he was sliding in the dirt for a good little ways before impact)

sucks bro, hopefully they'll take care of all the damage.

I CAN kind of believe the 40mph thing.. only because i rode on bald tires , with aftermarket wheels in the rain. And it is very very not fun. All it takes is a small puddle and the car will glide whatever direction it wants to. I never wrecked.. but it was bound to happen if i kept riding like that..

anyway.. you ll fix it im sure.

Before I knew what happened the back was in the front and i was in the grass..good thing there was a bridge that stopped me from going into the other lane. I thought the car would be fine until I went to shut the door and it didnt shut.. Insurance totaled it.. Anyway hope everything turns out ok...

Is there a down hill where he slide over the grass? come on my friend at 40mph you can't slide 300ft, just imposible if you got your ABS working properly and got your foot on the brake (a common reaction in such cases)
hey i am not giving nobody shit i am just posting my opinion in this matter, i have made mistakes too and i think everybody do also some time.

These cars are not super light in the ass being 53/47... The GTO is 55/45 for comparison. The tendency to hydroplane is almost non-existant if you have good tread on street tires. Which is not the case here. (worn drag radials) The wide tires and low tread turn into skis in the rain, at 40% tread on my street tires I can hydroplane on the highway going straight...

On a side note, Collins' GTO handles surprisingly well in the mountains with just aftermarket springs and BFG sports.

He's correct. I have adjusted claims in the past and work for an Insurance Company now. Long as you got receipts of the aftermarket stuff, they will work with you.

As for argueing about how he wrecked. I don't think that is the issue here. I think the real issue is why the hell he would have bald tires on a Z06. First thing I do is get good tires man, just asking for trouble running tubes down the road. Wanna drag, change tires. Driving that shiz daily, better have some good tires on it, specially when Fox 5 news says. "Flood Watch...Heavy Rains"

Too bad, that is a fine car man. Good luck on a speedy recovery.

I love how people's ugly ass personalities come out when it has nothing to do with them.

1) New Flash: No1 gives a FUCK about "what you believe" his speed to have been.

2) There is no such thing as karma. You don't always get what you want in life, you don't always get what you deserve. You get what you get.

You had HID's on that? jesus christ.. I thought rice boys put aftermarkett HID's in their cars..

Sorry about the wreck.. State farm should take care of you.. If I were you, I really couldn't care less about a 30$ HID ballast..

I swear 1 in 4 newer GM truck/SUV's I see have a driving light or headlight out. They must have took the lowest bidder on headlight bulbs.

Yeah, blinding other people is rice and dangerous.. If you have projectors, that is cool.. But putting an HID system in halogen headlights is not..

Man sorry to hear about the ride. Especially after getting the wheel recently. I least you can look at it this way what ever is broken gets a better replacement item to fix it.

As far as the hydroplanning incident. I had a similar incident in my EF Hatch back in highschool (13 years ago). First I am not comparing a Stock EF Hatch to a C5Z, but I was going about 10-15 mph in a parking lot trying to look cool around the ladies and in my new car... didnt pay attention and hit a ice patch near the curb and bumped the side really hard. Turns out I bet the frame and F'ed the wheel up. Really sucked and def didnt look cool.Water and Ice do not like R Compound. Plus I think he would have been in a worse type situation if he were going faster (Opinion... Not a professional or Dr. in Physics)

Glad you are okay and hope your back is fine. So far my experience with State Farm has been good.

Sorry to hear about the accident but at least your ok. Hydro planeing at 40mph can happen people, that's how I lost my supra. It can happen easier than some of you can imagine even when you are not speeding or driving careless.
